Under the Supervision of the Working Leader, the incumbent is responsible for the safe and timely transfer of patients to areas where there is no dedicated portering staff, including institutions connected by the tunnel system. The incumbent will distribute sterile products, patient use equipment to nursing units and case carts to the operating rooms using the scooter and trailer. The incumbent will set up equipment, such as Balkan Frames and traction equipment for the fracture beds and transport soiled equipment/case carts to the Central Service department for decontamination and reprocessing. The incumbent will also be responsible for the transportation of blood, specimens and body fluids to and from patient care units.
As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by unit staff. You will transport patients (clients, residents) and equipment to and from different units when needed and distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout units. You may also transports lab specimens, blood and blood products, clean patient care equipment and transport patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition to the duties of a Service Worker II, you will ensure that exam rooms and multipurpose rooms are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the medical and nursing staff is available.

CPR (BCLS-HCP) from Heart & Stroke are required. Internal applicants without a High School Diploma will be considered. Ability to work independently set priorities, show good judgment and cooperation in daily tasks. Must demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and other staff, be conscientious, reliable and able to work as a team member. Must be able to read, write, understand and speak English well.
Six months related experience in portering or central service processing is preferred.
