As an integral member of the Centre for Mental Health, this position provides support to the interdisciplinary team of physicians, registered nurses, counsellors and other staff in the provision of substance use and related addiction & mental health services in utilizing evidence based treatment for addictions/concurrent disorders; demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning skills; supports clients to successfully connect with community-based addiction and mental health services or hospital programs; helps clients navigate and transition to other services as needed; and as required provides comprehensive bio-psycho-social; provides treatment/ brief/short-term therapy for clients, including crisis intervention; performs departmental responsibilities to contribute to the efficient and effective provision of services; performs teaching responsibilities, participates in relevant research activities, performs duties consistent with the job classification.
Completion of a Master’s degree program in Health and/or Social Sciences
Registration licensure as required by professional body, e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, etc.
3 years practical and related experience required
Experience working in an outpatient addiction & mental health setting
Experience with Addictions, including concurrent disorders/motivational counseling
Experience with addiction patients counselling/brief/short-term psychotherapy models of care, including trauma; and crisis intervention
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
Compliance with confidentiality requirements
Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills
Knowledge of the addictions & mental health system and community agencies
Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team
Proven ability to interact with clients in an empathetic manner
Ability to perform responsibilities in a courteous and professional manner
Additional courses/education on addictions/mental illness related issues are an asset
