Position Summary
Reporting to the VP Patient Services, Clinical Education and CNO, the Director of Nursing provides strategic leadership in alignment with the program’s and organization’s strategic vision. Working collaboratively and in partnership with the Director of Clinical Operations and Programs and the Chief of the Service, the Director of Nursing is responsible for promoting an exceptional patient and family experience, overseeing the management of fiscal, human, and material resources assigned to the program and for ensuring optimal quality of care and patient safety standards and outcomes.
What you'll be doing
  • Plan, direct and evaluate all medical activity within program/service and ensure delivery of high quality patient care
  • Act as a consultant in complex clinical decisions relating to patient care, admissions, transfers and discharges
  • Ensure that all discipline are working together for continuity of patient and family care planning
  • Facilitate problem solving, conflict resolution and integration/collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and service physicians
  • Monitor trending with critical incidents and implement patient safety initiatives accordingly
  • Support the team in complex patient care plans, complex patient and family complaint
  • Act as a resource and contact for community and family members as well as for clinical emergencies, codes and infection control issues
  • Take final accountability for ensuring day-to-day clinical activities run smoothly
  • Evaluate nursing care and practices and ensure competency of nursing staff
  • Streamline practices and procedures, and seek out efficiencies where possible
  • Support implementation of new programs and directives
  • Create and implement change management plans
  • Develop and implement nursing standards, policies, and procedures with professional practice
  • Participate in and contribute to organization-wide projects and initiatives,
  • Direct the workflow, and oversee productivity and engagement of the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse and nursing team, which will include staff development, orientation, recruitment, scheduling, performance management/progressive disciplinary process and union-related activities
  • Track staff resource utilization
  • Effectively apply change management principles for both large scale organizational changes and day-to-day events
  • Promote timely and effective communication with staff on all matters
  • Represent HHC at appropriate internal and external committees
  • Manage and report on resources to remain within budget and to promote the financial well-being of the organization
  • Collaborate with physician/programming leadership to resolve issues and promote program/service improvement
  • Ensure compliance with clinical policy, standards, protocol and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards
  • Monitor and track quality indicators as established within individual programs
What we're looking for
? BScN, required; CPMHN (C) is preferred
? Health Management experience is required; Healthcare or Business related Masters is required
? Change management course preferred
? 5-10 years’ experience working with patients who have a broad range of psychiatric and addiction diagnoses
? Sound clinical judgment based on current practices and patient/client centered care
? Proven leadership/management skills
? Excellent knowledge of Mental Health Act
? Demonstrated coaching and empowering style of management
? Working knowledge of relevant practice standards
? Proven critical thinking and analysis skills
? Presentation skills as public spokesperson
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills
? Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office
