The Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems.

The Role:

Reporting to the relevant Infrastructure Architect, the Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the areas of system administration for complex computer systems. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of services to the customers of the IT Department. This position is also required to lead / conduct technical research and development in achieving continuous innovation within the infrastructure.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
  • Guide and provide work direction to System Administrators. Trains them in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired
  • Establish guidelines and methods to install new / rebuild existing servers / workstations and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with policies, standards and project / operational requirements
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards
  • Lead to perform daily system monitoring - verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, review system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
  • Continuously refine and monitor daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary
  • Supervise the timely and proper maintenance of data centre environmental and monitoring equipment
  • Supervise system software maintenance, and apply operating system patches and upgrades in accordance with the IT system maintenance procedures, also upgrade administrative tools and utilities, configure / add new services as necessary,
  • Lead first level IT hardware and software support effort – investigate, troubleshoot, repair and recover; create, change and delete user accounts per request
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the superior(s)

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:

  • Possess 3 years or more experience in various information technology system administration functions including but not limited to operating systems administration, database administration, software engineering, network administration, computer operation, system programming or cloud technology
  • A diploma or bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, business administration or commerce is preferred
  • Certification, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineering (MCSE), Project Management, IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or other designation relating to IT service management job skills is an asset
  • Strong teamwork skill and effective project management techniques with knowledge of principles and practices of effective management and supervision is a must
  • Good presentation and communication skills; possess highly systematic & analytical problem solving ability; also be able to plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with company policies/procedures
  • Service oriented with good interpersonal and customer relations skills
  • Demonstrate initiative, flexibility and responsiveness in completing tasks
