We are looking for a HR Development Specialist to join our Vancouver team!
The HR Development Specialist contributes to GeoGuard’s success by managing the learning, training and development of the team and the duties of an experienced HR Generalist supporting the operational responsibilities of the organization. This role’s overall focus is to sustain and enhance employee engagement and performance across all offices. The HR Development Specialist is an important member of the team whose mandate is to build the company’s employer brand while promoting our culture and values.
Our ideal candidate has two (2) years’ training experience, at least three (3) years’ of experience as a HR Generalist and previous experience working in a technology environment. You have in-depth knowledge of the Employee Standards Act and Human Rights legislation. You are able to, and enjoy, working across multiple teams across locations, have good communication and interpersonal skills. You have proven ability to be adaptable, work under tight timelines and are highly organized and detail-oriented.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities include (but not limited to):
Development Specialist (75% of the role):
Deliver a world class learning, development and training environment across the organization that will contribute to our corporate goal of being the employer of choice for key talent in the markets in which we operate
Assess the training needs of the organization through consultation with managers, interviews with employees and HR members to compile an internal educational list. This could have the dual focus of specific training to support or improve job skills; or training geared towards future employee growth; or the growth needs of the organization
Design and create an organizational training program, taking into consideration geographical locations to deliver an equalized and cross-functional plan
Consider the delivery of training; using a variety of mediums that deliver the expected expertise and within budget. This could include, but not limited to: in-person instruction, online, reading, interactive modules, conferences, group discussions, team exercises, video, web-based, self-guided or other training formats
Direct training programs for employees, coordinating time and gaining approval from Managers in relation to other deliverables and commitments
Select and assign courses, vendors and instructors as required to conduct training
Monitor, evaluate and record training activities to ensure the program is current and effective. Evaluate effectiveness of instructors and materials to meet our quality and expectations
Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys and feedback from both staff and managers, researching alternatives as required
Negotiate contracts with instructors and vendors, controlling fees and expenses, travel and accommodation
Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in training and development expertise by reading current journals, online reviews, trends, magazines, educational practice, etc.
Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of test, assessments and / or re-training requirements in the HRIS
Contribute to and review of onboarding training practices and other internal training modules, including Lunch and Learn initiatives
Report status and prepare reports, including KPI outcomes and results to HR Director and Management on a regular basis or as directed
Experienced HR Generalist (25% of the role):
Contribute to and execute on Human Resources operations and requirements. This could include developing job descriptions, supporting and mentoring employees, providing advice to managers and team leads
Maintain employee policies and procedures related (but not limited) to day-to-day expectations, employee conduct and performance expectations and management for all offices
Participate in interview processes and contribute to selection processes
Contribute to the overall onboarding process and new hire experience across all locations, supporting local HR Managers with its facilitation
Will share responsibility for employment agreement and independent consultant contract management, administration and employee documentation
Ensure legal compliance in all actions and activities
Manage employee relations and investigations as needed
Assist all members of the HR team with special projects and initiatives, including employee engagement projects, employer branding, succession planning, reporting and performance measurements, etc.
Provide general support to all HR team members across all countries, promoting a respectful and engaging team environment amongst the team
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the company’s technologies, process and teams
Understand the company’s goal and purpose and continually enhance the company’s performance
Skills and qualifications:
Previous experience working in a technology and IT environment is a requirement
Minimum of 2 years’ training experience required with 3 to 5 years’ experience as a HR Generalist
Post-secondary degree with a variety of educational backgrounds of interest: training, development, HR, education or instructional background
CHRP designation is an asset
Highly motivated to the success, coaching and development of others
In-depth knowledge of the Employee Standards Act and Human Rights legislation
Excellent oral and written English. Vietnamese, Ukrainian or Russian as a second language is an asset
Ability to work effectively with teams across country offices and provide a high level of support across different cultures and perspectives
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop trusting relationships with management and employees
Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity
Self-motivated and able to think creatively
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
