Job Summary
To assist with research activities relating to global mental health in the Mood Disorders Centre.
Organizational Status
The Research Assistant/Project Coordinator (RA/PC) will report to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Raymond Lam, Director, Mood Disorders Centre, and operate under the direct supervision of Dr. Jill Murphy, Research Associate, Executive Director of the APEC Digital Hub for Mental Health, and Co-Lead of the UBC Asia Pacific Global Mental Health Research Cluster within the Mood Disorders Centre, Department of Psychiatry, UBC. The RA/PC also interacts with other team members, including other Research Assistants and project Co-Leads and Co-Investigators, as needed.
Work Performed

Organizes in-person and virtual meetings and events

Provides administrative support during meetings and events, including via note taking, technical support, etc.

Prepares regular reports/summaries of key activities for various audiences

Liaises with partners and stakeholders, including community members, researchers and others

Supports communications activities, including updating and maintaining project websites, social media accounts and drafting communications materials (e.g. newsletters, event promotion, etc.) for review

Drafts reports for review according to funder requirements

Tracks and manages project budgets

Assists with preparation and submission of funding proposals

Supports other research activities as required, e.g., data collection for qualitative and quantitative study components; transcribing qualitative study data

Performs other administrative duties as required
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The successful RA/PC should be collaborative, reliable, organized, able to work independently and under tight deadlines. Our Global Mental Health projects involve working with an international team of researchers and liaising with diverse participants, including people with lived experience and representatives of at-risk populations. Therefore, ensuring a collaborative, highly professional approach is essential.
Supervision Received
Supervised by Dr. Jill Murphy. Weekly team meetings and bi-weekly study meetings are held, in addition to one-on-one meetings with the RA/PC, Dr. Murphy, and other research staff as needed.
Supervision Given
None. May have opportunity to provide informal support for undergraduate Project Assistant(s) and/or volunteers working on related projects.
Working Conditions
Work will be conducted both remotely and onsite in a hybrid model according to current COVID-19 related workplace protocols. Increased onsite work may occur depending on COVID-19 precautions and other factors. We anticipate increased onsite work over the coming year. Due to time zone differences among partners occasional after hours work is required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree or other post-secondary qualification in health sciences, health policy, or related field preferred, with demonstrated interest in global health, mental health, and/or equity issues in health

Demonstrated research and project management experience

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Social media and basic design/graphics skills are an asset.

Ability to work quickly and effectively, with excellent organizational skills

Experience working with people with lived experience and in knowledge translation an asset.
