Primary Purpose: To provide strategic marketing communication direction to the main program areas at the Edwards School of Business while also implementing and evaluating these programs to ensure success and alignment with the overall goals of the Edwards School of Business.

Nature of the work: Reporting to the Director of Advancement, Edwards School of Business, the Program Marketing & Communication Officer is responsible for planning and supporting undergraduate certificates and degree programs, graduate programs (MBA, MPAcc, and MSc.’s) and Edwards Career Services in their marketing and communication efforts. This position works directly with the managers of each program are, as well as the Director of Advancement and the External Marketing & Communications Specialist, to create individualized marketing communication strategies that align with the goals of the overall programs. The Officer supports an environment of collaboration, clarity, dependability and service, ensuring marketing and branding strategies are created and implemented that meet the needs of the Edwards community. This individual will develop, implement and evaluate the marketing strategies on an annual basis.
The Officer exercises judgment, discretionary decision-making and builds collaborative relationships with a cross-section of faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors to develop and implement the marketing and branding strategies of the Edwards School of Business. The work requires a proactive, strategic approach and the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences through a variety of methods and communication mediums. Establishing and maintaining positive, mutually beneficial relationships and confidentiality is essential to success. The Officer participates and provides input in the development of marketing and branding policies and processes. Work will involve strategic marketing planning, including creation, co-ordination, implementation, management and evaluation activities, which are necessary for the success of projects. Consequence of error is significant to the school’s reputation and profile. The position requires some travel, and occasional evening and weekend work.
Develop, implement and evaluate program specific strategic marketing and communication plans for all undergraduate programs, graduate programs, and Edwards Career Services at the Edwards School of Business to raise the profile and reputation of the school locally and nationally:
Develop advertising and program materials and initiate marketing efforts in coordination with the managers of the programs to enhance awareness of the programs to meet enrollment targets
Write copy for a variety of mediums including print, radio, television and digital
Online strategy and implementation
Website management and content creation
Story sharing (writing etc.)
Assist in key research in order to identify Edwards School of Business’s key strengths against peer institutions
Work closely with the External Marketing & Communications Officer to steward, follow and enhance Edwards visual identity and brand;
Ensure consistency in Edwards communications and marketing materials including the website, social media, advertising, publications, and press releases/media;
Work closely with program managers in the review and enhancement of the program websites to support current and prospective student needs and use as a competitive advantage in recruitment;
Prepare student, alumni, employer and faculty profiles, testimonials and program-related information pieces for promotional purposes for the website, magazines, recruiting pieces and advertorials;
Create and implement marketing and communications metrics across all programs, ensuring evaluation of the success of the marketing and communications functions.
Support all Edwards programs on graphic design support when needed (eg. InDesign)
Support programs through increasing faculty and research communications touch points: newsworthy articles, impact stories, reports etc.
Work closely with Alumni Relations Officer to create program specific alumni relations engagement strategies ensuring alumni of different program have a high level of connectivity with the college.
Manage budgetary requirements of marketing initiatives and projects and ensure the effective use of resources
Shoot and produce photography and videography to support marketing campaigns for programs.
Participate in University Relations training, meetings, team planning and other activities that contribute to achieving university-wide goals.
Education – an undergraduate degree in marketing, communications or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. IABC and CPRS membership and credentials are considered assets.
three to five years of directly related experience in marketing and/or communications with at least three years of progressive responsibility;
demonstrated expertise in marketing; experience working collaboratively with various constituents;
knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan’s culture, issues, goals and stakeholders is an asset.
exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation);
ability to initiate innovative change strategies that result in improvements to service quality, and the effectiveness of systems and processes;
superior research, analytical, problem solving and organization skills;
a good working knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications;
