Program Assistant for Persons with Disabilities up to 11 months

The Program Assistant is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of developmentally appropriate programming for adults with cognitive disabilities for excursions, drop-in/registered programs and day camps across all City of Edmonton Community and Recreation Facilities.

You will be responsible to:
Provide developmentally appropriate programming through team collaboration, planning and program evaluation
Provide support to staff and volunteers by ensuring they have the required resources, including monitoring supplies and equipment
Assist with front line program delivery when required
Assist with interviewing, hiring and training new staff and volunteers, including collecting and submitting weekly timesheets
Ensure program participant health and safety at all times by ensuring staff are providing adequate supervision and are up to date with safety procedures and required certifications
Contribute to a safe work environment by staying current with all the safety procedures for the facility
Conduct program evaluations (including staff evaluations), address issues and implement changes as needed
Involve staff and parents/caregivers by gathering feedback on programs
Respond to on-site customer concerns and report them to the supervisor
Design program schedules and monitor and maintain records pertaining to program summaries, including attendance, incident reports, etc.
Build and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
Maintain regular communication with program and facility staff, keeping them informed and up to date with policies and procedures

Qualifications :
Completion of the first year of a recognized Recreation Administration or related diploma or degree program
Completion or enrollment in a Disability Study Diploma or related program will be considered an asset
A minimum of 1 year direct experience working with adapted physical activities and programs for persons with disabilities
Must be able to effectively communicate, collaborate and liaise with a variety of stakeholders
Strong customer service skills, including the ability to resolve problems and navigate difficult situations
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills
Proficient with Google applications
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C are requirements of this position
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business
Hire is dependent upon a police information check including vulnerable sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours week, evening and weekend work is required

Salary: $21.793 - $26.928 (Hourly)
