The Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Director, Finance Operations, to join our Finance & Treasury Team.

Reporting to VP, Finance & Treasury, the Director, Finance Operations will oversee accounting operations, commissions processing, business partner billing and reporting, vendor contract management, and internal controls development and enforcement. The incumbent will be accountable for delivering accurate and timely accounting services across all business lines and shared services group. The incumbent will be strategic in structuring his/her teams to work interdependently to deliver shared business objectives. The position is expected to foster a team environment that challenges the status quo and streamlines processes.

What your day looks like:
Accounting Operations

Oversee accounting operations processes including accounts payable, expense reporting and vendor contract management across all business lines. Ensure all SLAs are met
Accountable for accurate and timely reporting of expenses by business lines for performance measurement and decision support
Ensure proper implementation of cost allocation methodology across Aviso’s entities, business lines, departments and funds
Develop and maintain tight internal controls over accounting operations processes (accounts payable, expense reporting and accounts receivable) and cash disbursement processes. Ensure policies over expense authorization and expense reports are enforced. Ensure evidence of review and approval, and documents are properly retained. Pass internal audits over accounts payable and expense reporting with minimal audit findings. Pass respective CSAE 3416 audits with no exception and findings
Prepare and present monthly expense analysis to SVP, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Administrative Officer and the Vice-President, Finance & Treasury. Be well verse of the levers and drivers of corporate performance
Ensure all policies, procedures and internal controls are followed. Identify process changes to improve efficiencies, tighten internal controls and enhance information value
Manage financial reporting systems and associated accounting and finance applications. Ensure the system and applications’ versions are up-to-date and seamless integration with banking, invoicing and expense processes
Establish relationships with Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Reporting and Corporate Tax teams, understand their needs and coordinate reporting requirements
Identify all interdependencies and strategically structured the teams to deliver shared business objectives.
Provide strong leadership, effective supervision, mentorship and direction to the accounting operations and commissions teams. Establish and maintain effective functional and cross-functional training and communication. Provide constructive feedback to team members
Develop and maintain metrics to track and measure achievements of finance objectives.
Be an advocate of continuous improvements

Commissions and Accounts Receivable

Oversee commissions processes including accounts receivable, commissions processing, fee billing and commissions statement reporting across all business lines. Ensure all SLAs are met
Accountable for accurate and timely commissions reporting and billing. Pass Corporate and regulatory audits with minimal audit findings
Develop and maintain tight internal controls over commissions processing. Ensure balances are properly reconciled, and evidence of review and approval are properly retained. Pass respective CSAE 3416 audits with no exception and findings
Ensure timely collection of accounts receivable. Develop process to actively monitor and follow up on delinquent invoices
Acquire a solid understanding of Aviso’s products, trade execution and clearing, custody and record keeping services. Stay up to date of product types and their respective trade flows to ensure proper capturing of trade revenue and charges
Successful and timely completion of Aviso’s integration projects with respect to commissions processing and reporting. Work collaboratively with business and shared services leaders to contribute to the overall success of Aviso’s integration projects
Successful onboarding of introducing brokers, portfolio managers and institutional partners with respect to commissions processing and reporting. Develop month end processes to support these business partners

Leadership

Requirements

Your experience and skills:
Strong business acumen, ability to influence and make sound recommendations as well as build and maintain solid relationships with stakeholders are key success factors in this role
Experience in wealth management and asset management industry is an asset
Strong interest and curiosity in capital markets, investment products and wealth management industry
Professional designation (CA, CGA, CMA / CPA)
Minimum of 7 years’ experience with managing accounting operations functions in medium to large enterprises
Experience in managing a team of finance professionals and engaging in their career development
Perseverance to gather information from various stakeholders and take the project from start to finish in a logical manner
Superior computer skills; ACCPAC, Excel, Database query language, and report writers
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
Customer service oriented to respond quickly and effectively to non-routine enquiries
Strong analytical skills and judgment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
Strong communication and presentation skills to promote accounting processes to business and shared services leaders
