The Dock Supervisor is accountable for ensuring that the dock employees are working in a safe and efficient manner. You are responsible to ensure smooth operations, efficiencies, people management, freight flow, change implementation, and safety, aligned to operational expectations and guidelines. This position is all about the effective management of freight flow through the management of people and safety, continuous improvement, problem solving and effective communication.
To be successful in this role, you will be expected to complete the following (not an exhaustive list of responsibilities):
Provide guidance by exhibiting a positive attitude, developing collaborative working relationships, and providing clear direction to employees.
Communicate clear expectations and hold team accountable to those expectations, maintain good working relationships with drivers, manage time effectively, and operate in an independent and capable manner
Manage dock operations with limited supervision.
Responsible for dock safety for self and employees, and corrects any safety issues within their control, escalates concerns to the Operations Manager where required.
Work with the team to improve current processes and create efficiencies.
Other related duties as may be required
To be qualified for this role, you must clearly exhibit some or all of the following:
Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial
Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience
Warehouse and/or cross dock experience
Lead hand or supervisor experience (minimum 1-2 years)
Experience with AS400/Truckmate an asset
Computer skills – Microsoft Office with Word or Excel a strong asset
Attention to detail
Good written and verbal communication skills
Education – secondary school, business management/administration skills
Flexible work schedule
In-depth knowledge of safety practices
Previous working experience with TDG/WHMIS
This position does not normally require travel.
