Recruiting firm looking for an experienced Head Brewer to join in a well established Brewery with Tap Room. Our customer is a growing, ambitious and dynamic organization opening a new location in Greater Montreal. Job Description
As Head Brewer, you need to be engaged and creative, as well as organized and disciplined. You will be responsible for monitoring and carrying out brew-house and cellar operations; including but not limited to:

  • Managing small staff (some training)
  • Managing and handling raw ingredient inventories * Yeast management * Wort production
  • Cellaring tasks (CIP, tank transfers, sampling for daily checks/QC) * Recipe development
  • Overseeing brewery equipment
  • Brewery cleaning
  • Exhibit quality, efficiency and consistency
  • Being a key component of the quality program

Requirements

  • Experience in a microbrewery (5 years) with available references
  • A self-starter with great energy and true passion for craft beer
  • Thorough knowledge of beer styles * Experience with off-flavors and sensory analysis
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and problem solve effectively and efficiently * Work well autonomously, and with assistance
  • Good communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to multitask and prioritize situations that require immediate attention
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used within beer production
  • Able to work under pressure and deadlines
  • Exhibit a positive attitude
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance on equipment and assist maintenance department with major repairs
  • Strict adherence to our health and safety policies

Physical Requirements

  • Carrying/lifting heavy items, transferring/lifting or pushing items, working in awkward positions,, or holding body in one position for a prolonged period
  • Ability to lift 20kgs repetitively throughout a shift * Standing for long periods of time

Assets

  • Experience in Brewpub
  • Diploma/degree in brewing science or an accredited brewing program and/or a post-secondary degree or diploma in chemistry, micro-biology or engineering * Certified or higher level of Cicerone certification
  • Experience working with barrels with a focus on mixed-fermentation
  • Management skills
