Reporting to the Team Leader, Protection Services, the Protection Services Officer (PSO) ensures department policies and procedures are followed incorporating guiding principals. PSO s protect Island Health s clients, property and information, and respond to and investigate requests for assistance from staff, patients and the public, in matters of security, fire and parking.
Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a high school graduation plus training in a police, security or fire emergency services field.
Skills And Abilities
At least one (1) year recent, related experience.
Must have valid BC Security Workers License with an AST endorsement.
Valid Level II First Aid certification.
Eligibility for certification as a Peace Officer.
A Police Officers Physical Ability Test (POPAT) time suitable to the organization.
Valid BC drivers license.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with professionalism, tact, confidentiality and discretion.
Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and awareness with a respect for diversity.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing skills.
Ability to deal with others effectively and to communicate with people in distressful situations.

Ability to operate related equipment.
High degree of proficiency with standard MS Office suite, Windows and database software.
