Service Bureau Support

Our Command Service Officers offer direct support for Veterans. They assist Veterans with their dealings with Veteran’s Affairs Canada as well as offering front line support to Veteran’s in need. This position will support the Service Officers by:

· Take initial inquiries and advise on the various processes of the Service Bureau and provide information on other Legion and outside programs (housing, benevolent funds etc.)

· Assist in maintaining confidential paper and electronic client files and assist Command Service Officer in ensuring required documentation is on hand prior to interviews with clients

· Tracking correspondence and client activity

· Advise Command Service Officer of status of documentation, draft letters requesting follow-up on documentation

· Assist in the preparation of disability claims applications as required

Administration and committee support

· Maintain records and statistics on all individual activities relevant to Service Bureau work and inform the Executive Director of the results

  • Maintain files and check on status of applications

· Assist in the research and preparation of benevolent fund submissions

· Provide administrative support for associated committees including taking minutes and initiating follow ups

Job Requirements

· Must pass the Personnel security Screening Processes per Public Services and Procurement Canada’s Contract Security Program; Reliability Status. This will include fingerprinting and a soft-credit check.

· High school diploma, bachelor’s degree is preferred

· Minimum 2 years experience in an administrative assistant

· Excellent proficiency in MS Office Suite

· Strong people/communication and listening skills

· Planning and organizational skills with a focus on details

· A good command of English language

· Demonstrated ability to gather, review and critically assess complex information

· Preference will be given to candidates who have military experience and/or experience with Veteran’s issues.
