Title: Social Worker - Temporary Care and Custody
Status of employment: Full time
Reports to: Supervisor
Location: Eskasoni, NS

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Social Worker is responsible under the Children & Family Services Act for:

receiving reports of child abuse and neglect;
carrying out child abuse investigations independently and where necessary, with police;
providing services to children and their families to ensure the safety and well-being of children;
participating in family/group conferencing to seek family and community based solutions;
presenting cases to Court;
supervising and providing services to children in the care of the agency;
maintaining records on the case management system; and
responsible for afterhours duty on a rotational basis.

Qualifications:
BSW or MSW, previous child welfare experience will be considered an asset
eligible for or have membership in the NSCSW
we welcome applications from new graduates
a good knowledge of child development, family dynamics and functioning, child abuse and neglect
demonstrated skills in investigation and therapeutic intervention with children and families
Knowledge of the Children and Family Service Act is a definite asset
a valid driver's license and a vehicle in good working order and insured for transporting clients
excellent oral and written communication skills and a willingness to work in an environment where Mi'kmaw is the first language
experience working in Mi'kmaw communities considered and asset
Preference given to Aboriginal People in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission

Classification Range: PR 9(1) - PR 15(6)

Salary range: $52,733.46 - $81,628.82
