Y4Y Quebec is looking to hire dynamic youths with experience as Visual or Graphic artists to work in a team with other youth on the development of a new flag to represent the English-speaking community of Quebec. Please read and share the job description.


Y4Y Quebec is currently accepting applications for Visual and Graphic artists (ages 16-30) to work on Y4Y Quebec’s Symbolism Project. This position is anticipated for a period of 8 weeks with a salary of $18.75 per hour at 4 hours per week; total stipend for this position is $600. This position is anticipated to begin on March 12, 2020.


  • Promoting and creating 3 versions of a flag to represent the English-speaking community of Quebec
  • Representing Y4Y Quebec’s mission and values at public events and in all communications
  • Working as part of a team, encouraging and supporting co-workers, driving the creative process forward while respecting the work of others
  • Gaining a basic historical understanding and enthusiasm for the flag design process
  • Attendance at Design Team workshop meetings and other planning meetings over the course of 8 weeks
  • Engaging with Y4Y staff, Board members and Design Teammates on an ongoing basis in a respectful manner
  • Producing original flag designs for public use and consumption; be open to receiving feedback from the public throughout the design process
  • Establish strong working relationships with the Symbolism Project Coordinator, Design Teammates and other creative development partners that make up the network of English-speaking Arts, Culture and Heritage groups across the province.


WEEK 1 (March 9):

Two hours of independent research on flag history and design

Attend two-hour orientation at the Y4Y office

WEEK 2 (March 16)

Two-hour workshop at the Y4Y office with the Design Team

Produce 3 draft designs of the flag

WEEK 3 (March 22)

Two-hour workshop at the Y4Y office to finalize drafts of the flag

Collecting feedback on drafts of the flag from various communities across Quebec

WEEK 4 (March 29)

Two-hour workshop at Y4Y office to analyze feedback and plan adjustments to drafts of the flag

Plan public awareness campaign

WEEK 5 (April 6)

Attend Flag Committee meeting

Two-hour workshop at MMFA

WEEK 6 (April 13)

Attend teleconference meeting with Graphic Designer

WEEK 7 (April 20)

Voting process on the 3 versions of the flag begins

WEEK 8 (April 27)

Promoting the voting process


  • Demonstrated ability to produce original works of art within the context of a guided project
  • Collaborative attitude, reliability, punctuality
  • Desire to have fun working in an up-and-coming non-profit community environment
  • Experience liaising and consulting with a wide range of community partners and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong interest in learning about the history of the English-speaking community of Quebec as well as the history of flag design
