The Specialist, Communications, will provide critical communications support to build and advance Sobeys’ strategic priorities with the corporate office and retail banner network through the development, execution and measurement of effective communications tools and processes. This individual will support the communication of various business initiatives, establish credibility in the delivery of services and build solid working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. The Specialist will be mainly focused on internal communications but will also contribute and support external communications activities.
Support the business in telling the Sobey’s story internally and externally;
Contribute to planning and leading the execution of employee communications;
Support issues management and crisis communications.
Develop and execute strategic integrated communication plans, often in collaboration with key internal stakeholders, members of the communications team and external expertise;
Write, edit and develop a variety of communications materials to support leader communication and build awareness and engagement among internal audiences including intranet stories, digital signage, memos, key messages, Q&As;
Lead event planning, logistics, promotion and on-site execution of face-to-face internal communications forums (e.g. Town Halls and special employee communications initiatives);
Contribute to the management of the Sobeys’ internal communications platforms (e.g. intranet, digital signage, etc.) including maintaining an editorial calendar, reviewing content (including proofreading certain key documents) and requests, posting timely announcements and updates and ensuring information is accurate and up-to-date;
Develop tools and processes to improve communication and evaluate insights to measure communication effectiveness;
Actively contribute to a positive and productive working environment while helping drive innovation within the communication department.
Post-secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism / equivalent job experience
Minimum of 5-8 years of corporate communications and/or public relations (or agency) experience
Solid team player with expertise in developing and implementing proactive communication plans and communications across the full range of channels including: print, digital and face-to-face
Superior research, writing and editing skills
Strong public speaking, presentation, interpersonal skills and an ability to work across all levels in an organization
Detail-oriented and data-driven with an ability to manage and prioritize competing assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Excellent computer and web publishing skills including PowerPoint, Excel and Word
Solid understanding of the digital environment, social media tools and new technology with the ability to apply them to communications strategies
Event planning experience
Language: English, French is an asset
Travel may be required occasionally
