IA2 – Media Coordinator – Ottawa International Film Festival

Desired Contract Length: 26 Weeks

Anticipated Start Date: January 6, 2020

End Date: Term approved to the Province of Ontario’s current fiscal year end, March 31, 2020. Desired additional weeks, ending July 3, 2020, is pending the approval of Ottawa Festivals’ fiscal year (2020-2021) JCP program application to the Province.

Work Schedule: 4 business days per week (32 hours)

Work Location: Arts Court (Downtown)


Job Summary: Assist the IFFO Programming team to execute a social media plan, create media releases, create the IFFO e-newsletter and generally get the word out to film fans on a local, national and international level.

The Opportunity:
Coordinate and execute a social media plan, use Photoshop to create images for social media
Continually research and update the media list on a local, national and international level
Write and layout the IFFO e-newsletter
Write media releases for IFFO programming and create an online media kit
Secure high resolution photos from distribution companies, curators and artists
Develop and pitch stories to media outlets and follow-up
Contact filmmakers and guests and coordinator interviews over the phone and throughout the festival
Establish a media space for interviews, help coordinate daily “Meet the Filmmaker” sessions, liaise between artists and the media and reply to media inquiries
Keep track of media coverage leading up to and during the festival

Skills and Qualifications Required:
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; French and/or other languages are an asset
Good organizational skills / able to work in a busy environment
Attention to detail and accuracy are a MUST
Advanced social media skills, knowledge of Photoshop, basic knowledge of html

Additional Qualifications Required:
Eligible to participate in Ontario’s Job Creation Partnership (JCP) program by meeting the following criteria:

You are a resident, living in Ontario.
You are not a full time student (part time students are eligible).
You are not leaving employment to participate (working less than an average of 20 hrs/week is considered unemployed.
You also must meet, and provide documentation for, at least one of the following criteria:

1) Previously employed in Canada in any five of the last ten calendar years and earned income in excess of $2000 in each year, OR

2) Previously established an Employment Insurance benefit claim (regular benefits within the last three years or maternity/parental within the last five years).

Remuneration and other benefits:
$560 (gross per week) provided by the Province of Ontario. Access to courses such as Adobe suite, editing and other professional development skills related to the position. Complimentary tickets will be provided to the festival
