Position Summary:
Reporting to the Systems Manager, the Transit System Communications Manager is responsible for aspects of on-site communication subsystems design, integration and construction activities on a daily basis, reporting updates weekly to the project team. This role will include both project management and on-site supervision duties related to the systemwide cabling, tunnel and station communication, security, and monitoring associated with SkyTrain Communications, Security, and Direct Digital Control (Building Automation) subsystems. The successful candidate will work with counterparts to manage subcontractors, verify construction compliance with design requirements, and coordinate with other groups on site.
Job Description:
Project Management
- Collaborate with the Client and third parties
- Ensure interfaces and interface requirements are provided timely to support Handovers.
- Ensure compliance with the project requirements
- Anticipate, identify, and resolve problems affecting the successful completion of suppliers’ and subcontract work
- Monitor and review supplier and subcontractor progress and works schedule
- Coordinate suppliers’ and subcontractor’s schedule with overall Project schedule and other subcontractor’s schedules
- Coordinate access requirements with other subcontractors
- Coordinate construction interfaces with other subcontractors
Site Supervision
- Working closely with Project Safety and Contractors Safety departments to ensure Safe Work Practices are in place and followed.
- Perform field inspections on all aspects of construction and installation on site. Ensure the work is carried out in accordance with requirements of the appropriate codes, specifications and drawings in Inspection and Test Plans.
- Monitor quality, safety, and environmental performance
- Coordinate requests for information and issue field instructions.
- Evaluate, quantify, and value changes in the work
- Review, negotiate and approve progress payments
- Prepare monthly progress reports
- Monitor Subcontractor’s Post Installation Check-Out testing and documentation to ensure all required checks are completed successfully
- Review compiled As-built construction records for completed installation work and commissioning support, using web-based document management system and
- Report on the status of the installation and commissioning support
- Ensure the contracted works are completed timely to support Handover to the Test and Commissioning Team, with inspection reports, deficiency lists and related handover documentation
Experience/Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience delivering high quality results to agreed budget and schedule
- Degree in Engineering
- 5-10 years’ experience in the construction environment
- Experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment involved in the construction of communications, security and building automation systems
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting contract requirements
- Proficiency in issuing clear written instructions to contractors
- Excellent computer skills, working with spreadsheets, PDF drawings and web-based solutions
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, communication equipment standards, relevant safety regulations and requirements
- Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems including inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
- Experience with large-scale Industrial or Transit sector is preferred
- SkyTrain experience is preferred
