University of Guelph-Humber, based in Toronto, is seeking a Senior Information Technology Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Academic & Campus Technology Services, this position will provide technical and consultative support to staff, students and faculty in all aspects of Information Technology hardware and software, including instructional technology integration and support. The incumbent will provide wireless network support; independently assess and resolve all types of recurrent and unique problems related to network connectivity as well as software and hardware challenges. The incumbent will be responsible for assessment of user needs and determination of best practices appropriate for addressing those needs; deploying, testing and maintaining software images in the UofGH computer labs, the Learning Commons and faculty/staff computers, ensuring enterprise wide computer usage policies and procedures are followed; developing and documenting procedures for maintenance of computer lab software, documenting lab configurations and updating standard lab images as necessary and integrating various instructional technologies into the overall technology infrastructure.
In addition, the position will provide technical and consultative support to staff, students and faculty in the area of secure computing in adherence to security policies of University of Guelph and Humber College. This includes evaluation, implementation, and support of security technologies, protocols, and best practices to make recommendations. The incumbent will liaise with partner institutions to report security concerns, assure compliance and provide ongoing evaluation of the evolving area of computing security and its application to the UofGH operational activities. The incumbent will maintain the University’s Security Card Access System as well as the asset inventory database. The incumbent will also play a leadership role in coordinating the University of Guelph-Humber Computer Support Assistance program at the Learning Commons and in computer labs.
The successful candidate will possess a 4 year degree in the Information Technology field along with a minimum of 5 years of experience delivering technical support services and leading complex projects on an enterprise scale. Additional requirements/certifications include ITIL v3 Foundations certification, HDI Desktop Support Technician, HDI Support Centre Team Lead; Apple Certified Technical Coordinator, Apple Certified Macintosh Technician, Apple iPad Support and Development.
The successful candidate must have solid technical skills with a wide variety of computing technologies and software, preferably in educational environments. Experience working with instructional technologies will be a strong asset. Additional requirements include: experience with wireless technologies, plan designing, implementation, administration and support; experience and the ability to analyze complex user requirements effectively and plan comprehensive solutions; experience administering work-study programs including hiring, training, scheduling and assigning tasks and administering guidance; and practical experience in a Macintosh and Windows networked environment, including, troubleshooting a variety of hardware, network printers, software and network issues.
The Senior Information Technology Specialist requires the ability to work collaboratively with other departments, and listen to key stakeholders (staff, faculty and students) while understanding and responding professionally and positively to their requests. This position must also be able to work independently and as a member of a dynamic team, with expected contributions to ongoing initiatives of the Academic & Campus Technology Services department, as well as handling other duties as assigned.
