Status: Temporary Part-Time, 1 year (28 hours/week)

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking an Assistant Coordinator for Advanced Short Term and Long Term services in the Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP). Reporting to the HELP Partner Service Associate, this position assists with the coordination of service delivery to clients of HELP in the Vancouver region. The incumbent also coordinates integration of volunteers into aspects of the program.

Key Responsibilities

Reviews all incoming applications for completeness and contacts referring health professionals for further information as required.

Works with clients, families and health care professionals to ensure loaned equipment is returned to the program.

Ensures all equipment requests are met within contracted time frames and that high priority clients receive prompt service.

Works closely with program technicians to ensure accurate and efficient service to clients.

Coordinates repair services when required

Acts as a liaison between clients, family members and health care professionals regarding equipment availability, suitability and service provision.

Reports and consults with health care professionals regarding vulnerable client needs.

Responds to enquiries from clients, health care professionals and the public regarding program eligibility and refers to other agencies as appropriate.

Handles complaints about service delivery or equipment issues and problem solves with caller to reach mutually agreeable solution.

Accurately enters all equipment and client data information into database, including client notes for every interaction with/about clients.

In collaboration with the Partner Service Associate, interprets program policies and contract provisions, communicating them to staff and health care professionals.

Supports the Partner Service Associate in maintaining program standards and implementing quality control mechanisms.


Education and Experience:
The minimum qualifications for this job are completion of two (2) years post-secondary education in health services or a related field and two (2) years’ customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Abilities and Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including telephone etiquette

Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite

Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Ability to effectively problem solve, prioritize, organize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment

Strong interpersonal skills including diplomacy, empathy and the ability to manage difficult situations

Ability to influence

Ability to work independently and as a team member

First Aid certification, or willingness to take training

Knowledge of medical equipment

Fluency in additional languages

Experience working with volunteers

Working Conditions

28-hour work week with the majority of the work performed in an office environment. Additional hours may be requested on an as needed basis.

Please note that there is no relocation package for this position.
