In this role, you’ll be reporting to the Assistant General Manager. The Mine Operations Superintendent is responsible for managing the underground mine production and construction activities while integrating engineering, planning, and operational components to meet or exceed production targets in full compliance with safety, health and environment standards & practices, budget, and labor parameters. Activities will include production, technology, operations planning, and employee relations and performance management.

The Mine Operations Superintendent will oversee the following areas, with duties including but not limited to:

Manage the activities of the underground operations with those of the maintenance department to minimize the occurrence of unscheduled downtime and to ensure access to equipment during planned maintenance work.
Communicating with the Assistant General Manager all relevant information concerning mine production activities, plans, manpower issues, safety, and ground control.
Managing and tracking costs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Administering safety programs.
Performs required compliance checks, key procedure audits, area inspections, and job observations.
Assign/schedule work and perform regular follow-up on work activities so crew personnel is working efficiently and effectively.

Operations Planning:
Contributing to the development of short, medium, and long-range plans with short term plans focusing on borer sequencing and utilization.
Scheduling equipment and service providers.
Build on budget and adjust the plan and methods as the work proceeds to improve productivity.
Develop detailed work plans in conjunction with engineers.

Upgrading the mine operations department in all areas due to changes and technological advancements in Mine Engineering and Mine Operations to improve operational efficiencies.
Advanced technology creates major advances in engineering planning tools as it does in mining methods.

Employee Relations and Performance Management:
Hiring and training General Foremen, Mine Captains, and First Line Production and Construction Supervisors.
Establishing accurate work standards, evaluation, and appraisal systems.
Establishing general and specific employee training programs to obtain top work performance from all operations employees on new concepts, systems, and equipment as required.
Reviewing and evaluating the performance of all mine operations personnel.
Coaching and mentoring General Foremen and other staff for strong leadership development.
Ensuring open two-way communication with direct reports is established and maintained.
Participating in all company off-site employee activities in support of department employees (i.e. Fire Fighters’ Rodeo, Provincial Emergency Response Competition, Service and Safety Awards.)
Ensure that safe work habits are enforced and instruct safe methods of doing work.
Supervise personnel within the area of responsibility to ensure that safe and productive work is performed.

Undergraduate Degree in Mining or Geological Engineering, other combination of experience and education will be considered.
10 and more years of related progressively-responsible senior mine management experience.
5 and more year of experience in an operation management position.
Strong technical knowledge of mining, an understanding of mining operations as a whole.
Experience in large mining operation site. (open pit, surface or underground)
Proven capacity to lead people for maximum results.
Be up to date on technological advancements in the mining sector.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated commitment to safety.
Proven to work productively with others.
Promotes and maintains a healthy and positive work environment.
Strong coaching and influential leadership.
