The Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Student position is a 30 month pre-approved program position with work-terms that rotate through the Internal Audit and the Finance departments. The CPA Articling Student gains industry experience while working towards obtaining a CPA designation. The CPA Student executes various internal audit and financial reporting duties while obtaining “key technical competencies” required for a CPA designation including, but not limited to, financial reporting, audit and assurance, and strategy and governance. The CPA Student must also obtain “key enabling competencies” including, but not limited to, professionalism and ethical behavior, written and oral communication, self-management, teamwork and leadership, and problem-solving and decision-making skills. In addition to executing the various work assignments, the CPA Articling student is required to: 1. Meet the required prerequisites and be eligible to apply for the CPA Professional Education Program. 2. Complete the CPA Professional Education Program course requirements on a continuous basis. 3. Work towards writing the Common Final Examination within the three-year rotational program. Working as part of an engagement team with appropriate supervision and support given the complexity of the audit engagement/tasks, the CPA Student’s key responsibilities include: Identifying, understanding and analyzing key risks at a strategic, business unit and/or engagement specific levels. Assisting in designing a work plan and audit procedures. Executing audit procedures. Drafting findings and conclusions for audit reports. Participating in presentations to stakeholders. As the CPA Student progresses through their work term and they further their practical knowledge, it is expected they will execute the responsibilities of their role with increasing independence and that the scope and complexity of their work broadens.

Minimum of an Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field is required. Any specific prerequisites for registration in the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) program.
