Kuma Tofino, a local and visitor favourite, is looking for a new Head Chef.

Kuma serves comfort food that celebrates Japanese flavours.
We are looking for a chef to lead the back-of-the house, contribute to Kuma’s growth and share in the success.


  • Foster a positive employment climate of cooperation and respect amongst co-workers
  • Overall responsibility for the kitchen’s daily operations, ensuring the food is of the highest quality
  • Oversee food sourcing, complete food inventory and monitor and control food costs
  • Implementation and enforcement of health and safety procedures in the kitchen
  • Hiring, training and mentoring kitchen staff
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is in proper operational condition and cleaned on a regular basis
  • Some duties may change due to COVID-19 operating regulations/guidance

Job Requirements:

  • Professional and positive attitude
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment and modest venue
  • Understand the restaurant business and importance of managing food and labor costs
  • Take ownership
  • Maintain consistency in food quality
  • Culinary arts education an asset, experience a must
  • Ability to maintain all COVID-19 operating regulations/standards
  • Food Safe Certification

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: $42,849.00 to $48,696.00 /year
