The Medical Device and Reprocessing department is looking for an accountable leader to provide strategic direction and ensure high quality and effective delivery of services within Providence's client centred environment.
The Manager will act as the primary administrative link to operations management, utilization and risk management, quality improvement, and human resource management for the Medical Device Reprocessing department.
In addition to leading a team, the manager is excited about working within a team, collaborating with internal and external partners to achieve excellence in a client and family centred care, and education and research within a complex multi-site environment

Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a related Health Profession
- Minimum five (5) years of experience related medical device reprocessing or perioperative experience in progressive leadership roles, including direct supervisory experience within a large unionized health care environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current registration/membership with a recognized professional association is desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Leads the development and implementation of innovative and creative approaches for delivery of high quality, value added and efficient medical device reprocessing (MDR) services, to support long term strategies and effectively address customer needs and expectations. Participates in periodic planning sessions, discussing service levels, ensuring supplies provided by MDR are in the appropriate quantities, conceptualizing and providing expert advice for future developments, participating in annual systems planning to outline priorities and change requirements and through maintaining an awareness of current MDR related trends and issues such as literature review, contact with peers at other organizations, attendance at seminars, workshops and educational programs.
2. Communicates program strategic direction incorporating Providence Health Care’s vision, values and strategic direction and ensures integration into practice by team members through establishing, preparing and revising departmental goals, standards, policies, procedures and instructions that contribute to the effectiveness of MDR service in accordance with Providence Health Care’s goals.
3. Provides leadership on all issues related to MDR, including being conversant with the future direction of new developments in MDR, understanding how these directions and developments will impact Providence Health Care, and how future and current systems can be utilized for the benefit of the organization.
4. Defines an effective workforce plan for MDR, through use of statistical data and workload measurement tools, in collaboration with key partners and the Director that ensures the availability of adequate staff within the context of operational demands and environmental and resource constraints.
5. Provides the interface between the assigned sub-units and corporate /support systems, both internal and external, to identify needs and participate in identifying solutions that will enable the front-line delivery of care. Ensures tools/systems/processes are readily accessible and consistently applied to effectively manage the equipment/supply requirements, track information, measure use of resources, and evaluate the quality of services delivered within allocated budget. In addition, ensures the maintenance and ongoing evaluation of contingency plans for all processes and systems related to MDR activities.
6. Coordinates quality improvement, risk management and infection control activities for MDR and facilitates implementation of approved modifications and evaluation of process effectiveness to ensure optimal use of organizational resources and safe delivery of patient care.
7. Acts as a subject matter resource, through establishing close working relationships with key internal and external partners, to provide expert advice in the areas of appropriate processing techniques, equipment purchases, handling of sterile goods, and the handling of single-use medical devices by third party representatives.
8. Collaborates with other Leaders to lead and/or participate in process improvements by engaging the interdisciplinary team in problem-solving and applying tools of quality improvement, utilization and risk management including implementation of standards and tracking mechanisms and use of data and variance analysis.
9. Leads, guides and supervises non-contract and unionized staff, including those that have supervisory responsibilities, and uses effective management techniques (e.g., coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, performance management) to support the achievement of required outcomes and ensure adherence to accreditation, regulatory, and safety standards.
10. Provides leadership to the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient /resident/family focused care is delivered within a coordinated and integrated care delivery model.
11. Collaborates in the development of annual capital and operating budgets to meet the changing standards and align with the strategic direction of clinical programs that depend on MDR service within existing fiscal constraints and in adherence to allocated budget.
12. Ensures effective, two-way communications with and among team members so that each team is aware of and understands changes impacting them, the site, the organization and how such changes will impact delivery of services.
13. Develops, recommends, and implements, in collaboration with Human Resource Representative(s), strategies for recruitment and retention of staff that support the goals and objectives of the clinical area(s) of responsibility.
14. Facilitates the development and implementation of orientation programs for new staff to provide the appropriate education in clinical practice routines, and hospital policies and procedures
15. Develops, recommends, implements, and evaluates staffing patterns, rotations and vacation schedules to ensure sufficient staff to meet operational needs in addition to activities such as approving timekeeping records, authorizing overtime and compiling periodic operational reports.
16. Participates as a member of the leadership team by performing related duties such as formulating employer demands for collective bargaining, developing strike contingency plans, representing the employer during grievance proceedings, facilitating and initiating service delivery change proposals.
17. Creates an environment that embraces and facilitates interdisciplinary team learning, evaluation and continuous improvement. Participates in service evaluation, indicator establishment and measurement to inform MDR service including active representation in regional and provincial working groups to inform MDR issues, guidelines and practice within the Province of British Columbia.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned.
