The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for two permanent part-time casual call-in Housekeeping Aides at Riverview Gardens Long Term Care Home. As a member of the Housekeeping Team, the Housekeeping Aide maintains the Home in a clean, orderly condition to provide a safe, pleasant environment for the residents, staff and visitors of the home).

About Seniors Services:
Seniors Services division manages the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Long Term Care Home, Riverview Gardens. The Home is committed to providing exceptional, residential long-term care services for approximately 320 residents over the age of 18 who are in need of long-term care. The residents have access to a range of medical, personal, dietary and recreational and spiritual programs that the team strives to ensure the highest potential of quality of life at Riverview Gardens.

Essential responsibilities:
Responsible for performing all duties in adherence to the guidelines and regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Homes for the Aged/Rest Homes Act and the policies and procedures of Riverview Gardens and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment including vacuums, floor polishers, scrubbers, floor machines and any other equipment that pertains to the housekeeping department
Responsible for safe handling and storage of all chemicals within the Housekeeping Department
Assist nursing with the portering of residents to the dining room for breakfast
Assume responsibility for ensuring all store rooms and carts are stocked and secured properly in accordance with relevant regulations
Collect all waste material from containers and transports to holding area in accordance with relevant regulations
Ensure all rooms and contents within the home are cleaned on a regular basis according to job routines; (washrooms, tub rooms, resident rooms, offices, halls, store rooms, utility rooms, furniture, drapes, etc.) based on daily, weekly or monthly assignments
Ensure residents' beds are made in the morning, including stripping, cleaning and remaking any beds that are soiled
Replenish all needed supplies in areas as required such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap etc.
Ensuring housekeeping closets are ready and stocked for each weekend
Report all repairs to maintenance via the work order program
Report all needed inventory to the supervisor
Perform other related duties as assigned, which are in accordance with job responsibilities or necessary departmental objectives
Responsible for communicating any concerns expressed by residents, families and staff to the RN responsible for the floor
In the absence of Supervisor, Environmental Services, or designate, takes direction from the Registered Staff responsible for the resident floor
Must participate in Quality Assurance program as per Housekeeping Policies and Procedures
Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and hazard-free manner. Follow established procedures to avoid the spread of infection (i.e. hand washing and use of protective clothing /equipment)
Responsible for attending ongoing in-service training
Assist, as required, in the orientation of all new staff within the department

Essential Qualifications:
Ability to demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s Core Values and Competencies through a combination of education and experience:

Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent Education (i.e. GED Certificate)
Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control preferred
Knowledge of cleaning supplies and related housekeeping equipment preferred
Ability to work on a daily basis with chemicals, cleaners or detergents required
Ability to set priorities, organize and follow scheduled workload in order to ensure continuing productivity
Must be pleasant, respectful and patient with residents, families and other visitors in the home
Strong customer service skills
Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions
Reliable and able to work in a team or independently
Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or other similar software program)
All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required

Other qualifications:
Healthcare experience in housekeeping preferred, Long Term Care experience an asset
Ontario Hospital Association or Ontario Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association an asset

Certifications, memberships, licenses:
Health and safety certified an asset

Work Environment:
This position works mostly indoors.

Hours of Work:
There are no guaranteed hours for this position
Flexible hours will be required at various times throughout the year
This position will be required to work weekday hours, afternoon hours, evening hours, and weekend hours
Candidates must be able to accept on short notice shift call-in hours for days, afternoons, midnight, and weekends,

Police check requirements
This position works with vulnerable residents in a position of trust and authority, on a sustained and regular basis, in a largely unsupervised capacity. A Vulnerable Sector Screen is required (Long-Term Care Homes Act section 215 O. Reg. 79/10) prior to being accepted for employment. You must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check.
As per the Long-Term Care Homes Act, all staff members shall promptly provide Seniors Services (Riverview Gardens) with a signed declaration disclosing new charges, convictions, orders, and restraining orders, consistent with Ontario Regulation 79/10 made under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, with respect to the period since the date the person’s last criminal reference check under subsection (2) was conducted.

Essential physical and/or safety requirements:
Annual Flu immunization is required
2 step TB skin test to be completed within two weeks of starting position

Requires non-slip footwear
Ability to use auto scrubbers, buffers & use of ladders
Bending: frequent stooping, twisting (up to 9.09 kgs or 20 lbs) (ensures all rooms and contents are cleaned on a regular basis according to job routines; (washrooms, tub rooms, resident rooms, offices, halls, store rooms, utility rooms, furniture, drapes, etc.) based on daily, weekly or monthly assignments; ensures residents' beds are made in the morning, including stripping, cleaning and remaking any beds that are soiled)
Walking: frequent balancing; constant walking on level surface (up to 13.64 kgs or 30 lbs) (collects all waste material from containers and transports to holding area; utilizes equipment including vacuums, floor polishers, scrubbers, auto scrubber machines (ride-on/step-on); assists with the portering of residents to the dining room for breakfast)
Sitting: frequent sitting in a chair; constant sitting in vehicle seat type (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) (utilizes equipment including ride-on auto scrubber machine; prolonged sitting position when cleaning wheelchairs)
Reaching: frequent reaching above shoulder; constant reaching below shoulder, forward, handling (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) (ensures all rooms and contents are cleaned on a regular basis according to job routines; (washrooms, tub rooms, resident rooms, offices, halls, store rooms, utility rooms, furniture, drapes, etc.); stocks all needed supplies in areas as required (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer solution, etc.); stocks housekeeping closets and push carts for each shift)
Lifting: constant pushing below shoulder (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (ensures all rooms and contents are cleaned on a regular basis according to job routines; (washrooms, tub rooms, resident rooms, offices, halls, store rooms, utility rooms, furniture, drapes, etc.) based on daily, weekly or monthly assignments; ensures residents' beds are made in the morning, including stripping, cleaning and remaking any beds that are soiled; stocks all needed supplies in areas as required (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer solution, etc.); stocks housekeeping closets and push carts for each shift; assists with the portering of residents to the dining room for breakfast; prolonged repetitive movements (i.e. dusting, sweeping, mopping, etc.))
Standing: frequent standing inside (up to 13.64 kgs or 30 lbs) (ensures all rooms and contents are cleaned on a regular basis according to job routines)
Hands: frequent gripping (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) (ensures all rooms and contents are cleaned on a regular basis according to job routines; ensures residents' beds are made in the morning, including stripping, cleaning and remaking any beds that are soiled; communication via email)
Foot action: constant one foot action (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) (utilizes equipment including ride-on auto scrubber machine)

Compensation:
This permanent casual call-in position has an hourly wage range of $17.81 to $24.07, as per the UNIFOR (RVG) collective agreement, plus 15% in lieu of benefits following the successful completion of a probationary period and 4% vacation pay.
