The Health Information Management Professional I South is responsible for extracting clinical information from the patient care record supporting a provincial Colorectal Cancer and Lymphoma Diagnosis Pathway Initiative. This Cancer Strategic Clinical Network (SCN) initiative aims to expedite and support patients from suspicion of cancer to diagnosis. The position will play a key role in prospective data collection for key metrics to support implementation and evaluation. This will include coding and abstracting patient records using the ICD-10-CA and CCI coding system and the Meta Health Abstracting system. This position reports to the Senior Project Manager of the Cancer SCN. The individual is detail oriented, excels in a clinical project team environment, and has a good understanding of the data they are extracting. He/she will help the project team ensure implementation and evaluation of best clinical practice and ongoing quality improvement. The position will work directly with the Senior Project Manager, Cancer SCN. Duties include: gathering/retrieving, collating, coding, designing, analyzing, and interpreting clinical and demographic data for patients. The position is responsible for reviewing patient records for the purpose of classifying diagnosis and interventions, collecting, and maintaining patient data. Coding a defined list of elements from patient charts, the position will support site and pathway data collection from patient charts and NetCare and assist with data entry into approved clinical quality measurement tools. The 18-month term position is funded through a Health Innovation Implementation Scale grant awarded to the Cancer SCN. The position is a South sector wide position with some travel anticipated to sites to extract and enter data and participate in implementation meetings.
As a Health Information Management Professional I, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting data from clinical records, release of information and/or data quality assurance. In accordance with AHS procedures and the Health Information Act, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, design, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.

Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience working in provincial project teams in a healthcare environment. Recent experience with computerized data collection programs and understanding grouping methodology for diagnosis and interventions. Thorough knowledge of current CIHI, ambulatory care and regional guidelines and requirements for collection of diagnoses, interventions, and specified data elements. Familiarity with ICD-10-CA and CCI Folio product. Experience with Meta Health Abstracting System preferred.
