Waypoints is a registered, non-profit charity that has been operating in Fort McMurray since 1982. Waypoints offers facilities, programs and services for people that have experienced, or are experiencing domestic violence and/or abuse, or sexual assault and/or abuse. Waypoint also provides the community with public awareness events, initiatives and educational programs to increase the prevention of violence and abuse in the Wood Buffalo Region. Waypoints operates Unity House, an Emergency Women and Children's Shelter, the Opportunities for Change Centre, The Sexual Assault and Abuse Healing Centre, and The Compass, home of our Second Stage Shelter for women and children in need of transitional housing, as well as affordable housing.

We are currently seeking a full-time Sexual Assault Program Coordinator. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the position promotes prevention of sexual trauma through provision of public education and awareness, and provides crisis intervention, support, and advocacy to individuals who have experienced sexual trauma and their loved ones.

Terms of Employment:

  • Incumbent will be required to work 37.5 hours per week with the ability to flex hours of work to accommodate client and agency needs
  • $30.00 per hour (plus an additional $6.40 per hour Cost of Living Allowance to a maximum of $480 bi-weekly)

Education: Diploma in Social Work; Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work preferred

Credentials: Current registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers

Experience: Minimum of one year experience providing direct client support, case management and advocacy services.

Specific Skills & Duties:

  • Provide brief support and case management services to women, children and men who have experienced sexual violence
  • Complete screening and intake for clients coming into the program
  • Answer Sexual Trauma Support Line during business hours
  • Accompany clients to RCMP services, court proceedings or medical services when requested by the client
  • Develop and facilitate presentations to service providers and to the community on Waypoints services, sexual violence and trauma-related content
  • Collaborate with Trauma Counsellors to develop and / or co-facilitate groups for individuals who have experienced sexual trauma
  • Collaborate with service providers to ensure clients are receiving a wrap-around service
  • Build partnerships with other agencies and institutions
  • Attend community meetings to inform of Sexual Assault Program services and provide updates on Program
  • Complete and submit statistical and reporting information to Manager
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and Waypoints’ staff meetings
  • Participate in public awareness events related to sexual assault and other events for Waypoints
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager / Executive Director

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to build rapport with clients
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Understanding of trauma and trauma-informed care
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality guidelines of all records, materials and communications concerning clients
