The Associate Director, Marketing and Communications is responsible for supporting and executing on the Faculty of Science strategic marketing and communications priorities by delivering communications tactics and strategies; developing, leading and managing major communications and marketing projects; building client relationships, communication and channel strategies; and providing training and support for content producers. The role determines editorial plans and best approach to tools and sets targets for content performance. The Associate Director plans communication programs and operations, evaluates results, and makes recommendations to the Director Marketing and Communications. The role provides daily coaching and mentorship to junior staff across the Faculty. The Associate Director, Marketing and Communications collaborates on behalf of the Faculty of Science with key stakeholders as well as external groups to unify and advance the SFU Science brand.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing and/or Communications and six years of related experience in communications, specifically in the development and implementation of strategic and tactical planning, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and communications, media and public relations.
Excellent knowledge of current social media and current web design techniques and approaches.
Demonstrated understanding of current trends and best practices in marketing and communications relevant to complex organizations.
Proficient in the use of current marketing and digital media applications, platforms, systems, and tools.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent problem solving, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to develop effective business processes with cross-functional teams.
Excellent project management skills involving multiple stakeholders in a matrix-style organization.
Ability to provide guidance, coaching and mentorship to junior support staff.
Ability to write effective communications materials for online and print publication.
Ability to exercise mature judgement, initiative, and independence in accomplishing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to conceptualize and develop training materials and tools and facilitate presentations.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact.
Ability to build client relationships; and develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
