The Intern Architect will be involved in Pre-Design, Schematic Design and Design Development phase of the projects, from initial concept discussion through design, production drawing development and architectural project co-ordination and client interfacing. Working to ensure delivery of excellence by applying knowledge of design, building materials, assemblies and effective team work.
- Work with Principal Architect to review and implement project schedule
- Provide bi-weekly schedule reporting to Principal Architect
- Prepare project design and financial feasibility studies
- Surveying sites, identifying location benefits and environmental impacts for new projects.
- Client correspondence and presentations at 30%, 60% and 100% completion of schematic design
- Responsible for preparing and producing presentation quality drawings, models and renderings
- Participate and contribute to design discussions, idea generation, and design working drawing, model and 3D image formats
- Schematic design and modelling in Formit and Revit, including massing, space planning, suite layouts and interior design review
- Co-ordination of all sub-consultants to support site plan approval process
- Site Plan Approval related drawings and documents production and review: Site Plan, Elevations, Building Section, Site Plan Details, Shadow Study, Building Statistics, Area Plans
- Building elevations design and drawings production; sample board preparation for client’s and City’s approval
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code
- Design coordination with production team and design coordination during construction, colour sample material selection and review
- Participate in construction site visits to better understand the construction process
- Represent PGDS and Client Visions to all parties and authorities and ensure design directions are carried through
- Mentor Junior Designers, assign and evaluate their work
- Other duties as required
- B.Arch or M.Arch from a University (CACB recognized). Enrolled in the OAA internship program or eligible for membership
- 6+ years practicing leading a team of designers and technologists
- 6+ years’ experience applying best practices in similar role
- 3+ years’ experience working on mid/high-rise development projects
- Possess excellent graphic, 3D rendering, presentation design skills and abilities (portfolio required)
- Ability to communicate in a small energetic team environment with strong oral and written communication skills in English
- Proficiency in Revit, Formit, Sketch-Up, MS Office, Photoshop etc.
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines and follow-through with strong organizational skills
