In conjunction with the Area Manager, the Acute Care Manager (ACM) facilitates implementing clinical guidelines and standards of care. Manages the performance of staff under direct supervision within the department. Interviews, selects, assigns, evaluates and coaches staff, coordinating in-service education, orientation, training to meet the identified needs. The ACM foster and maintain a positive working environment. Assist in investigation and resolution of complaints/issues. Participates in and supports staff in the implementation of Quality Improvement Initiatives. Investigates and reviews incident reports and provides follow-up. Assumes all management responsibilities. Provides ongoing input to the Area Manager to ensure timely identification of potential and emerging issues and concerns. Administers and monitors department budget and conducts monthly variance reviews to identify possible causes and necessary actions taken. The ACM attain Department/Site goals while maintaining the integrity of the Zone's goals. Northern Allowance: In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Travel Expense Reimbursement: Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
The Care Manager collaborates with area leaders, regional programs and direct care providers to ensure that clients receive quality care in a safe, competent and ethical manner. The Care Manager provides leadership to the Department/Site in keeping with the policies and procedures outlined by Central Zone and Alberta Health Services.

Current registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). A minimum of five years' experience in a supervisory role, ideally in an organization of similar size, complexity and diversity. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred. Post-graduate certification in applicable Acute Care areas an asset. Must have a strong, current working knowledge of Emergency Department, Operating Room and Acute Care.
