Position: Corporate Controller

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Established in 1981, Prairie Meats is Saskatchewan’s family butcher shop offering service to our retail and food service customers out of 8 locations in Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert. As it has grown Prairie Meats has maintained the family business foundation on which it was built.

Prairie Meats is currently looking for an experienced Corporate Controller to undertake all aspects of financial risk management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasting, development and/or maintenance of internal control policies and procedures as required and oversight for internal IT functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the finance/accounting team and operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, inventory accounting, payroll, and revenue recognition
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report on variances
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting, and compliance with local, Provincial and Federal Government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Deal directly with external auditors on completion of year-end statements
  • Identify cost accounting strategy and processes to facilitate informed decision making by the senior leadership team
  • Work directly with the senior leadership team to ensure company goals and objectives are met
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Additional duties as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Accounting Designation
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial management capacity leading all finance and accounting functions
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, specifically related to a manufacturing environment
  • Experience creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting software
