New employees must provide documentation of a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.
St. Mary’s Cardiology Program supports a 23 bed in-patient unit that is staffed by a team of experts in the cardiac field. The Inpatient Cardiology Registered Nurse is professionally responsible and accountable to provide constant intensive care, multidisciplinary assessment and intervention to all acutely ill patients, in order to prevent complications, and to achieve and maintain optimal patient responses.
Registered, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
BScN or equivalent
Worked in Cardiology Nursing within the last three (3) years and has telemetry knowledge and experience, including care of the patient post-cardiac catheterization and/or angioplasty
Previous experience with arterial sheath removal (femoral or radial)
Possess recognized certificate in Intermediate Level Coronary Care (CCU II) Nursing or be enrolled in a course offering an equivalent
Completion and/or enrolled in Dysrhythmia or Advanced Dysrhythmia course
Completed a 10-week Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
Willing to obtain ACLS certification within three (3) months of commencing the position
Willing to obtain defibrillation certificate within three (3) months of commencing the position
Functional knowledge of Nursing Diagnosis (as per the CNO Standards) specific to patients with cardiopulmonary diseases
Have a positive work record; good attendance
Have a level of physical fitness appropriate for the physical demands of the unit
