As a Mental Health Program Assistant you will:
Provides administrative, secretarial and clerical support to the Cambie Older Adult Mental Health team.
Transcribe and types a variety of medical dictation and other documentation utilizing word processing and spreadsheet software, acts as a receptionist; answers phones, determines urgency of calls and refers to staff.
Greets clients; provides resource information and responds to various inquires.
Complies, prepares and maintains statistical records for workload monitoring and program planning.
Receives referrals, schedules and/or confirms client’s appointments, receives clients and provides information.
Types material such as correspondence, psychiatric and physician assessments, discharge reports, memos, minutes, promotional material.
Edits transcribed material for stylistic consistency and accuracy; identifies medical and verbal inconsistencies in dictation and makes corrections/resolves problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience

Grade 12, graduation from an approved program in Medical Transcription and/or Medical Office Administration Certificate plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
Knowledge of community, social and mental health resources
Knowledge and experience in providing culturally competent support services specifically pertaining to aboriginal people
Knowledge and experience in Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented care
Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
Ability to operate related equipment
Ability to organize and prioritize
Ability to keyboard 6,000 keystrokes per hour.
Ability to type at 60 wpm
Business writing skills
Knowledge of general office procedures
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
Knowledge of medical terminology
