The Assistant Manager, Maintenance (Eastern Canada) is responsible for leading the Maintenance Team Members and the overall maintenance of the Vaughan Stock Flow Centre (SFC) and equipment while supporting the operational priorities of the leadership team. This role will work closely with the Maintenance Manager and the Maintenance department to maximize the uptime of the building systems and all material handling equipment while helping to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Coach, train and develop the Maintenance Team Members informally and formally through training p rograms; provide both informal (e.g. on floor coaching) and formal (e.g. written evaluation) job performance based feedback; maintain a positive work environment by creating an employee centered work place which demonstrates care and concern for all Team Members
Assist Maintenance Team Members with all duties and tasks when the situation requires (e.g. short handed, large spills, etc.)
Leads and manages the team to achieve the key performance measures and objectives for the site.
Develops the daily/ weekly work plan and assigns job tasks in a fair and consistent manner.
Manages and oversees the facility including preventative maintenance, repairs, building services and installation of equipment to ensure continuous operations as well as escorting and ensuring contractors are compliant with standards (safety, schedule, budget, quality)
Partners with other maintenance resources to leverage best practices and to keep abreast of all environmental/ regulatory/ technological requirements and continuous improvement opportunities
Recommends and implements changes to facility and equipment that are cost effective and compliant with safety standards
Interacts with the Maintenance Manager and site leadership team to support the day-to-day needs of the operations team and proactively communicates events that may have an impact on scheduling or throughput
Reviews maintenance, production and quality control reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities
Plays an active role in protecting the assets of the site and keeps the leadership team informed of abuse and/or lack of adherence to policies and procedures
Supports and initiates any training programs introduced by our corporate maintenance group
Actively participates on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and helps promote a culture of safety
Coordinates and manages the emergency response protocol and is expected to support after hour service calls and emergency requests as required

Some travel may be required to provide support to other eastern distribution centres, as needed
Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Experience Required:
5+ years of supervisory experience
2+ years of relevant work experience in a mechanized distribution centre environment is required
Journeyman Electrician or Millwright (Red Seal) is an asset
Project Management experience or related training is an asset
Must meet minimum time-in-position (1 year) and performance management code requirements (M+)
Ability to work flexible shifts and hours including weekends and holidays, emergency calls for site service.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and working knowledge of Access and Project Management.
