Reporting to the Dean – Academic Development and Research, the Pedagogical Counsellor – Research Officer accompanies individuals and teams in the development of projects, grant applications, and grant management. He or she supports the application and review of Vanier’s research policies, and acts as liaison with granting agencies, ensuring compliance with their regulations.

More specifically, but not limited to, the Research Officer:

  • Informs the community of development and research opportunities;
  • Coordinates Vanier’s mechanism for Development and Support Opportunities for research, student success and pedagogical innovation projects;
  • Counsels prospective grant applicants with regards to appropriate short-term and long-term internal and external support opportunities for their proposed research or non-research projects;
  • Counsels prospective grant applicants with regards to the design, development and conduct of their proposed research and non-research projects;
  • Advises College administration about strategic development of research, including institutional research initiatives and CCTT development;
  • Contributes to the promotion of Vanier research and researchers, through reports, research website, or Vanier Academic Voices;
  • Ensures grant management though operational monitoring;
  • Liaises with other Academic management and other Vanier services as part of grant application and management process;
  • Liaises with research and granting agencies;
  • Ensures compliance of research procedures with Vanier research policies and with agencies’ guidelines and regulations;
  • Reviews Vanier’s research policies and guidelines on a regular basis;
  • Advises College administration about the review of applications to conduct research for institutional suitability;
  • Ensures the review of applications to conduct research by the Vanier College Research Ethics Board;
  • Supports the activities of Vanier’s REB;
  • Contributes to academic sector-wide mandates and special projects;
  • Offers counselling, training and professional development sessions in areas of expertise, and undertakes the related evaluation and follow-up;
  • Stays informed about current events and developments in relevant areas of expertise through professional development, peers and other sources.

Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

Schedule: To be determined, from Monday to Friday (35 hours/week)

Contract: T.B.D. to June 30, 2021, with the possibility of extension.

  • Undergraduate degree in Education or other appropriate field of specialization.

Conditions related to the specific position:

  • Research experience;
  • Graduate Degree, an asset.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Strong French oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word (to be tested).
