Position Title: Youth Centre Assistant, Gibsons YMCA Youth Centre
Terms: Part time
Shift: 15-25 hrs/wk
Salary : $13.50-$15.00 per hour, based on experience
Placement: Immediately
Reports To: Facilitator, Gibsons Youth Centre

Function: The youth centre assistant will be an important member of the Gibsons Youth Centre team, providing effective leadership and support to the YMCA Youth Centre located at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre. This position will work directly with the Facilitator of the Youth Centre, planning and designing programs and delivering flexible programming based on the participants needs.

Major Responsibilities:
Ensures that the program operates smoothly and ensures that the service provided to youth is of excellent quality.
Provides general supervision to areas frequented by participants during the opening hours, and ensures smooth functioning of each day/activity.
Collaborates closely with Facilitator, Youth Centre to ensure consistency in program delivery.
Delivers flexible programming based on the participating students needs in the framework of a comprehensive, preventative approach.
Perform related duties as required

Required Skills and Knowledge:
Able to manage and facilitate small groups of youth

Strong communication skills and experience working with a variety of cultures and family dynamics
Knowledge of physical activity guidelines for youth, children and teens

Experience leading recreational activity for youth

Qualifications:
Diploma or Degree (or pursuit of) in Social Services, Youth work, Career planning and/or related fields
Experience working with youth in a preventative, harm reduction approach
Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with youth participants, staff and volunteers; excellent communication skills
Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
Current First Aid/CPR certificate required
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
