Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy and Engagement, The Senior Development Officer leads and stewards the vision and operations of the division by overseeing activities related to outreach, engagement, education and fundraising. More specifically, the Senior Development Officer builds and maintains strong donor relationships, oversees strategy which includes campaign events and engages in direct face-to-face solicitation in an attempt to increase revenues for the campaign and perpetuate the strength of volunteerism, education and giving in the Jewish community.


  • Responsible for implementing the fundraising, outreach, engagement, education and strategy targeting assigned portfolio
  • Responsible for increasing the Annual Philanthropy Campaign
  • Work closely with lay leadership to engage, reach out and educate the community about Federation CJA and the annual Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign
  • Act as a representative of Federation CJA and canvass numerous current and potential donors.
  • Manage relationships with the assigned portfolio campaign President
  • Oversee various committees within the Philanthropy campaign structure.
  • Develop and maintain department’s budget in keeping with campaign business plan.
  • Work closely with other members of the Campaign and engagement team to carry out the annual Combined Jewish Appeal.
  • Responsible for follow up on divisional gifts of $1000 to $10,000.
  • Work closely with other departments of Federation CJA in a cooperative and supportive manner.
Education, Knowledge and Skills

  • A University Degree in a relevant field
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years relevant experience, namely in positions which entailed sales, donor cultivation and/or fundraising
  • Experience in Program Design, Development, implementation and evaluation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with Lay Leadership and volunteer committees, with a donor-focus
  • Some experience in event planning is necessary
  • Outstanding communication, writing and presentation skills, in both English and French
  • Understanding of fundraising principles and selling intangibles
  • Excellent Leadership skills, ability to lead people and get results through others
  • Knowledge of Montreal Jewish Community and commitment to Federation CJA values
  • Strong work ethics, including developed skills for organization, strategic thinking and ability to work in a multitasking environment.
  • Knowledge of Montreal Jewish Community and commitment to Federation CJA values
  • Knowledge of the MS Office suite
This position may involve traveling within Montreal and therefore requires the incumbent to possess a valid driver’s license and access to a car.
