Health Care Aides are a crucial contributor to the success of our high functioning team and are at the heart of patient-centred care in the emergency department. You will work closely with patients, families, other health care aids, and support nursing staff. By joining our team, you will utilize your skill set fully and work in an environment where no shift is ever the same. You will have the opportunity to work autonomously as well as alongside your team and be trusted by your leadership team. To be successful in this position, you will have well developed communication and time management skills, and be highly skilled at adapting to multiple-shifting priorities and rapid turnaround times. In this busy role, you will be responsible for monitoring vital signs, tick charting, and working closely with the service workers to ensure the completion of critical tasks. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of the Emergency department at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. The UAH emergency department is a level one trauma centre seeing patients from the Edmonton zone, Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia as well as the North West Territories and the team acts as experts in many care areas and assume responsibilities for patients regarding of their current state, which includes pediatrics, strokes and burns. By working in a level one trauma centre, you have the unique opportunity to work alongside a high functioning team, have many resources available to you, as well as be provided a comprehensive orientation, training and provided support through buddy shifts while you are learning our department.

Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
  • As a condition of employment at AHS, you must be enrolled in the Government of Alberta-Health Care Aide Directory and provide evidence of your enrollment at time of hire and annually thereafter. For more information on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory, please visit: www.albertahcadirectory.com. - In addition, you must meet one of the following Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirement and provide evidence at time of hire: a) Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or b) Substantially Equivalent - an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or c) Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Valid CPR certification. Active or Eligible Registration with CLPNA. A minimum 1 year tertiary care experience (critical care, acute care, medicine, emergency) within the last three (3) years.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an acute care or triage department. Experience working with the Epic Rover mobile application. Experience working with Connect Care.
