GM requires an experienced Human Resources Manager (HRM). Reporting to the CEO, the HRM serves as a key member of our leadership team, playing an instrumental role in designing and implementing programs that optimize engagement, performance, development, employee satisfaction, retention and enhance operational performance. Combining HR excellence and industry knowledge to appropriately evaluate and resolve complex HR issues within a fast-paced and changing business environment, the HRM oversees a large and geographically dispersed employee base within our 10 store locations, distribution centre and central office locations in Southern Ontario. We are seeking an experienced HR leader who understands how to create, align, enhance and cultivate culture, in a rapidly growing organization. The successful candidate will have superior business acumen together with a well-defined sense of tact and diplomacy. This is a full-time working manager position with HR Business Partners reporting to this role.

Job Summary: The Human Resources Manager (HRM) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the operations of the Human Resources team. The HRM coaches and empowers the HR team on recruiting strategy, employee relations and HR policies while handling their share of the workload. Actively involved in all areas of HR, the HRM will work to implement key initiatives in keeping with the Vision, Mission and Values, as well as the business goals and objectives of GM. Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Drive HR initiatives that support organizational goals and reinforce a collaborative, engaged and high performing culture.
  • Oversee all aspects of employee relations. Provide expertise, consultation, and coaching to GM Leaders and management to ensure the appropriate handling of all employee relations issues including change management, performance, disciplinary action and terminations, coaching, and conflict resolution. Help managers respond to employees' concerns and address issues proactively, ensuring company policies are administered fairly and consistently.
  • Develop/revise HR policies and procedures that best meet the evolving needs of the business and the employees, while ensuring compliance with all applicable provincial and federal laws to minimize risk/exposure to the company.
  • Provide guidance to ensure the integrity of the performance management program and the development of employees.
  • Assist in compiling HR metrics; analyzing, reporting and identifying trends with recommendations provided.
  • Implement best practices for developing and deploying talent acquisition strategies.
  • Coordinate development, employee growth and other learning opportunities and effective strategies for onboarding new hires.
  • Conduct employee investigations and oversee all escalated employee issues.
  • Leverage and implement relevant, effective training and onboarding programs.
  • Monitor processes and ensure accurate maintenance of employee files and HRIS database.
  • Oversee benefits administration.
  • Oversee company Health & Safety program. Provide framework, process and systems to ensure business is conducted in a safe manner and to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Oversee WSIB claims management.
  • Assist and Advise on AODA matters for both internal and external parties.
  • Responsible for HR communications and employee engagement surveys that will lead to a more productive and committed workforce.

Education and Experience

  • University degree in Business Admin, or related field.
  • Must have 7-10 years of progressive HR experience in a fast-paced environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • CHRL certification is a significant asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable employment laws.
  • Experience in managing a team of direct reports.
  • Experience investigating sensitive matters and making recommendations/decisions based upon findings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (e.g., Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint). Ability to learn and efficiently use in-house platforms.

  • Articulate, with excellent presentation and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization and work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to self-manage workload and time in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to organize and follow-up multiple tasks/details with accuracy and timelines.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Successful track record managing multiple activities, effectively planning and organizing, developing others, effectively working under pressure with challenging personalities.
  • Ability to adapt to change and innovation.
