Job description

The Opportunity

This exciting opportunity offers the right person a position that will support the continued development of GEMs monitoring department. This position requires someone who can lead with confidence and support both ongoing projects, the implementation of new projects and the continued capacity development of trained community members.

  • Develop and manage the Construction Environmental Monitoring Division including:

- Engaging in the management of contracts on current large-scale projects

- Developing and preparing for contracts and work plans for upcoming projects

  • Schedule and manage staff on multiple projects in different cities.
  • Monitor works for compliance with environmental management plan specifications
  • Parameters include:

- water quality (pH/turbidity) monitoring of storm-water

- equipment inspections
- spill response
- erosion and sediment control
- surface water management
- vegetation
- etc.

  • Develop and review Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)
  • Develop and implement Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs)
  • Develop and implement Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (ESC)
  • Develop and manage Storm Water drainage plans
  • Assist with modifying works to meet specifications
  • Manage incoming directives
  • Use existing Environmental Management Plans to aid in prediction of impacts and provide appropriate mitigation
  • Develop task-specific Environment Work Plans
  • Produce written Monitoring Reports with photo documentation of site activities
  • Develop opportunities for continued capacity building/ mentoring of trained community members

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Core values aligned with environmental protection
  • C.Tech, EP, RB Tech, or RPBiol, P.Biol, CPESC (beneficial), or be qualified to achieve the designations)
  • 3+ years environmental monitor / coordinator experience on civil or industrial infrastructure projects
  • Experience (professional or volunteer) with fish, bird, wildlife and vegetation assessments / surveys is an asset
  • Solid understanding and experience with the application of erosion and sediment control best practices
  • Strong knowledge of BC environmental regulations and how they interface with construction projects / development
  • Solution focused mindset
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and implement specifications in Environmental Work Plans
  • Proven track record of being able to integrate into a dynamic team involved complex project with tight timelines
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing workloads and tasks while remaining positive and focused on desired outcomes
  • Excellent technical writing and analytical, problem-solving, decision making abilities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver’s license

Salary: $95,000.00 to $115,000.00 /year
