In accordance to AHS guidelines and under general supervision of the Unit Manager or delegate, provides clerical support to staff, patients, and physicians. The Unit Clerk is responsible for managing the flow of patients and information and providing clerical support to staff and physicians in the RAH Endoscopy clinic. The incumbent enters, updates and searches patient and clinic related information using computerized information systems, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Products, Outlook, Net-Care, Connect Care and VAX. Responsibilities include updating demographic information, data entry into clinic specific spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, and scheduling patient appointments into Connect Care. This position initiates and maintains patient related files and records. The clerk’s knowledge of specific patient transactions and over all unit operations is imperative to the smooth and efficient operation of the clinics. This includes but is not limited to processing orders, lab requisitions, liaising with other departments, booking tests, managing complex schedules and communicating scheduling needs. The Unit Clerk plays a key role in helping foster a team environment in the unit by facilitating communication between physicians, nursing and other health disciplines, inter disciplinary departments, patients and families. This individual is responsible for maintaining confidentiality of patient information. The clerk provides clerical support to nursing and other health disciplines in order for them to provide focused patient care.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of the Unit Clerk Course—certificate required. Medical terminology training required. Health care provider-CPR through Heart and Stroke Foundation is required. Must be able to understand and communicate effectively, in writing and verbally in the English language is required. Must be proficient in the use of Windows, VAX, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Offices products. Ability to problem solve and work on own initiative is required. Must be flexible, able to prioritize and organize workload and adjust to rapidly changing needs of the department. Must maintain patient confidentiality. Must have the ability to work well within a team and deal effectively with conflict and sensitive issues.
GI/Pulmonary or Endoscopy clinic experience an asset. Previous experience with e-Clinician, or current experience with Connect Care an asset. Previous experience with EndoWorks an asset. Experience with detailed clinical reporting and the creation and managing of Excel spreadsheets preferred. Timekeeping experience preferred.
