Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) grade 7 teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. The assignment will be at Upper Pine Elementary/Jr. Secondary School.

Upper Pine is a K-8 school located at beautiful Rose Prairie, minutes north of Fort St John. We enroll 200 students, 25% of whom are Indigenous and 25% who are English as a second language. We have 10 teachers, 6 support staff, a principal, a Reading Recovery teacher and a teacher-librarian. Our school enjoys itinerant access to a range of services including counselling and ELL. Qualifications and Experience

Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
Experience teaching intermediate age students
Experience in teaching in a multi-aged group setting
Drama experience would be an asset
Experience working with students of Indigenous ancestry
Ability/experience in using performance standards
Cognizant of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new provincial curriculum including the Core Competencies
Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
Ability to work as part of team to implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional learning difficulties
Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on school improvement plan including professional development
Ability/desire to work collaboratively with students, staff and parents
Strong classroom management skills
Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing, Performance based assessment, Balanced Literacy, blended/structure writing process, differentiated instruction, Guiding Reading, Power of 10 Literacy in Action, SMART learning process, Project Based Learning, Universal Design for learning and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Training or experience working with special needs students including behavioural challenged students
Computer related skills - a familiarity with the new BC student management system would be an asset (MyEDBC)
Training or experience working with ELL and FASD students

$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
$2,520.09 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 - $91,278
Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
Isolation allowance of $245.43 paid over 10 months
