The Ministry of Attorney General, as represented by the Attorney General, is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Attorney General in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB assists all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public bodies.
The Central Services (CS) Group, within Legal Services Branch, is seeking a full-time, permanent Working-Level Paralegal to provide assistance to legal counsel within the CS Group.
This is a key position in the CS Group, covering the broad scope of CS solicitor practice areas including commercial law, commercial transactions, procurement processes, corporate finance, trade law, employment and FOIPPA. The position works independently and also collaboratively with the CS Group, as well as to support individual lawyers or specific transactions. The successful candidate requires the ability to draft and revise complex documents, as well as oversee transaction progress and coordinate engagement both within the CS Group and other LSB areas. This position will require developing familiarity with the various legislation and government-wide policy specific to the work in the CS Group, including enactments and policies related to financial legislation, corporate governance, establishment of Crown corporations, procurement, accommodation, information management, privacy, intellectual property, data and statistics, corporate registries and the Core Policy and Procedures Manual. Familiarity with commercial documents, procurement processes, commercial transactions, MyLTSA, BCOnline, the Land Title Act and directives and practice of the Land Title and Survey Authority will be an asset.

You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to think strategically and creatively. The position may require you to work as part of a team or independently, interact with client Ministries and law firms, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times. Must be able to work overtime as required.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
Paralegal Certificate, Diploma or Degree from a recognized institution. A Bachelor of Law degree may be considered as an equivalent to a Paralegal Certificate. Candidates will be required to provide proof of completion of a paralegal certificate/diploma/degree or equivalent.
Two (2) years of recent and relevant experience in a legal office environment or equivalent.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
Three (3) years, or more, of recent and relevant experience in a legal office environment or equivalent.
Recent experience working in a solicitor’s practice.
Experience with commercial transactions and/or complex contracts.
