Scope: The Category Quality Manager will be responsible for leading and driving the deployment/ /implementation/execution and verfication of quality and food safety programs within their respective assigned product category, in addition to ongoing capability building of direct reports. The Category Quality Manager will in turn be accountable and responsible to ensure the bakeries have implemented the programs effectively using influence, team building, and coaching in keeping with the Weston Foods Values. The Category Quality Manager will liaison with Operations, Product Category Leads, Supply Chain, Sales, R&D, and Customers. Engagement with other teams within the business and externally, will be key, to understand the level of collaboration needed to establish key partnerships and expectations.

Responsibilities:
Leads, engages and effectively manages the QS Lead/s in each bakery to deploy/execute/implement food safety and quality programs to ensure full compliance to all corporate policies/procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
This role will be key to support the food safety culture mindset as part of a Premier Bakery focus.
Collaborate and partner with the Corporate Food Safety Team and Corporate Quality Team.
Lead the training of all direct reports, as part of the implementation requirements to support the development and capability building. Responsible to hire, onboard, mentor and coach Quality leads in the bakeries to ensure they are, engaged and enabled to set them up for success.
Communicate and drive accountability and ownership of KPI trends to the bakery QA who will implement action plans and report out the progress on a regular basis to drive and deliver on results.
Ensure all bakeries are following their quality improvement plans and actions and are on track in keeping with the implementation, execution and verification of the effectiveness, of the same.
Responsible to review and give feedback to the QMS Manager, as required, in a timely manner for any policies/procedure and standards as required.
Have regular meetings, with the Quality Leads on an ongoing basis to establish ways of working, communication of results, potential issues, and sharing of best practices as part of the implementation of programs.
Participate in the operations meetings for the product category to communicate progress of quality and food safety program implementation, gaps, CAPA and verification steps.
Participate in the Internal Audit programs, as part of the BRC preparation for your bakeries to ensure they are set up for success.
Conduct regular on site visit of the bakeries within the Product Category to support implementation directives, troubleshoot root cause analysis, for food safety issues and/or repeat issues that do not and effective preventive action implemented.
Lead the data collection from the bakeries to support the Recall Coordinator.
Capable to assess and complete detailed food safety risk assessments for allergens, food safety etc.
Suppport the preparation of certification audits for the bakeries (non gmo, BRC, organic, kosher) to ensure the Quality Leads .
Partner with Key Account Managers to understand customer level expectations and support the achievement of customer delivery excellence in the area of food safety and quality.

Competencies

Technical experience:
Consultation across multiple bakeries within a category (technical domains: Quality, Regulatory, Food safety as an example). Provides leadership, including driving knowledge sharing within the Product Category and across the Bakery Quality Leads.

Execution:
Maintain emphasis on product quality by implementing and executing food safety and quality strategies in support of overall business goals through to plant level.
Ensures bakery level compliance with all established food safety, quality and regulatory standards that have been developed by Corporate and/or category.
Reviews effectiveness of programs to keep with continuous improvement of food safety and quality

Analysis & Problem Solving:
Works with team to establish root causes and corrective actions to address and manage risk, based on trends.
Ability to drive improvement in KPIs through successful implementation of food safety and quality programs.
Must be able to support effective problem solving/risk assessments experienced in the manufacturing environment.

Decisiveness:
Ability to make decisions in difficult or ambiguous situations, when time is critical, balancing risk and operational efficiency.
Must be able to clearly communicate the reasons why/when an issue must be escalated.

Leadership:
Responsible to lead a team and be able to collaborate to drive results through execution / implementation of quality systems/programs using the Plan, DO Check, Act principles. Leading the development and capability building of others to ensure the execution of the programs are completed, compliant and owned by the bakeries.
Building and maintaining relationships with the Bakery Leadership teams.
Ability to communicate with impact
Leads using the Weston Foods Values.

Communication:
Be capable to articulate technical information to stakeholders in support of decision making.
Lead and support effective key messaging to the customer and consumer.
Ability to have the appropriate amount of transparency and open data based discussions within the business to drive improvements, support food safety/quality capital investment, risk assessments and sanitary design reviews.
Must be able to adapt key messages and the style of communication, with impact, across bakeries, peer to peer, and with internal and external stakeholders.
Takes initiative to share information with the team (ie: policy changes, best practice sharing, food safety moments, etc)
