The City of Coquitlam is seeking a permanent full-time Supervisor of Trades Inspections - Plumbing to join their busy Building Permits Division within the Planning & Development Department. This complex supervisory inspectional and regulatory work involves directing the activities of a group of trades inspectors engaged in the inspection of building and plumbing and related bylaws, including monitoring of industrial, institutional, commercial and residential building construction, repair and alterations to ensure compliance with a variety of codes, standards and regulations. Positions assigned to this class specialize in either the plumbing or building regulatory function and incumbents have expertise in the applicable section of the Building Code, Book II: Plumbing Systems (BC Plumbing Code) for Plumbing and Parts 3 and 9 for Building. This position will be responsible for accompanying trades inspectors on difficult and complex inspections related to a wide variety of complex construction projects, requiring an individual to use considerable independence of judgment and action when interpreting and applying building and zoning by-laws, the British Columbia (B.C.) Building Code and regulations to resolve the more complex issues and files and ensuring compliance. Along with monitoring projects and activities of trades inspectors, you will assist senior members of the Building Permits team in developing policies and procedures and recommending changes to regulations.
The successful applicant will possess a Canadian Trades Qualification (TQ) in plumbing plus considerable related experience, preferably as a supervisor or senior inspector. BOABC Level 2 qualification in plumbing is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A BC Driver’s License is required.
