Student Engagement Coordinator – Student Life

NYIT is a non-profit independent, private post-secondary institution with over 9,000 students at campuses in New York City (Manhattan) and Long Island (Old Westbury) in New York; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Vancouver British Columbia; and in various programs around the world.

Reporting directly to the Director of Student Affairs working with the Associate Registrar, this position is a Campus role that provides student services and engagement strategies. The position supports faculty in providing academic counseling and is directly responsible for student life activities outside of the classroom. The position also acts as a liaison between faculty and staff in Vancouver and the New York based student affairs teams.

Role and Responsibilities

This Role is to provide quality service to students through Student Engagement and student retention as well as promote NYIT in the community. The role is to build relationships with students and encourage school engagement through events, social activity as well as opportunities for volunteer (Orientation, graduation, challenge events etc.) and career oriented opportunities.

Academic Support

1.Works with the Associate Registrar and appropriate faculty to:

i. Develops opportunity for academic support programs such as peer tutoring

ii. Library support for all students

iii. In coordination with the ELI Coordinator supports workshops on academic and technical communications

2. Student Engagement and Campus Life

a. Manages campus life activities and programs

b. Creates a sense of community and belonging on campus as well as opportunities within the community for volunteering

c. Plans and coordinates new student orientation

d. Prepares new student welcome packages

e. With the Assistant to the Campus Dean, manages and oversees student facilities

f. Oversees student clubs such, and supports the creation of new clubs

g. On behalf of the Campus Dean oversees the Graduate Students Association

h. Supports the various student leadership roles

3. Student Services

a. Oversees the student housing program

b. Oversees the student health and wellness program

c. Oversees student financial aid program

d. Provides campus leadership on cultural support activities

e. Provides campus leadership on diversity guidelines and policies

f. Supports student mentor program

4. Other duties assigned by the Campus Dean

a. Developing new services

b. Planning and managing the Student Engagement Budget

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The Student Engagement Coordinator is a person with three years experience preferably working with students or volunteers. The position requires a good understanding of graduate programing and the ability to develop and run a wide variety of student services. The role requires having an excellent understanding of working with international students and creating appropriate engagement and support mechanisms to ensure student success. The person must be able to lead projects and plan and run a variety of events. Excellent communications skills are essential and strong understanding of cultural diversity required.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

Ideal skills and certification would include:

· Bachelors degree required

· Experience conducting research and with library systems

· Advising credentials an asset

· Excellent written and verbal communications

· Training and workshop experience

· Strong organizational skills and event planning

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
