CASCADES CONTAINERBOARD PACKAGING
The Containerboard Packaging Group, a division of Cascades, is the largest containerboard producer in Canada, and is also a top converter of corrugated products in the country. The Group manufactures a wide range of products made from recycled fibres for its North American customers in the food, beverage and consumer products sectors, among many others. The Division, which employs close to 3,400 people, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in Canada and the United States.

Daily Management Systems Responsibilities
o Centerline management (CL)
o Defines standard processes and tools to manage centerlines, shares best practices with the other Process leads
o Ensures the process is executed according to defined standards and continuously improves that process based on lessons learned
o Evaluates the impact of centerline deviations on the equipment and product quality, by putting in place immediate corrective action
o Manages improvements to equipment, process parameters, and centerlines
o Trains / coaches the operators in best practices in terms of equipment center lining and procedures to be followed in case of deviation • Rapid changeovers (RCO)
o Defines standard processes and tools to accelerate replacement/cleaning operations, shares best practices with the other Process leads o Ensures the process is executed according to defined standards and continuously improves that process based on lessons learned
o Trains / coaches the operators on the individual monitoring of shutdown times linked to changes in order to reduce their variability, leads grade change audits
o Prepares grade changes, organizes the upcoming product; establishes a clear checklist for each operator and each grade change
o Develops the forms to request modifications in his/her area (DAMMES)
o Analyzes the production schedule and challenges production planners with changes to minimize time losses between grade changes
o Identify maintenance requirements of the area and develop operating plans to allow work to be performed efficiently.
o Work with maintenance personnel and set weekly priorities for area.
o Work with maintenance personnel and operations to set up regular maintenance shuts.
o Ensure pre-shut tasks are completed so that all things are in place prior to shutdowns.
Act as a technical resource person by making recommendations and suggestions for improvement
Analyze the needs of business partners and clearly identify project terms of reference
Develop good relationships with business partners
Develop project plans (mandate, deliverables, schedule, budget) while complying with existing standards
Assist with commissioning new equipment
Identify the human and material resources required for projects

o Responsible for centerline calibration
o Communicates with suppliers and sends them information about problems with procedures
o Optimizes equipment.
o Support Shutdown and start-up.
o Work with coordinators and operators to ensure instructions are followed as per plan for the day.
o Make sure production targets are met.
o Ensure troubleshooting steps are taking place to correct losses or operational/quality upsets. (Making sure the available troubleshooting checklists are being used)
o Develop and maintain troubleshooting checklists.
o Ensure proper operating procedures are in place and communicated.
o Develop operating procedures that incorporate best practices.
o Identify sources of production losses and develop plans to correct them.
o Work with manager to ensure proper supplies are in place for the operation (doctor blades, etc.).
o Work with other operating area personnel to ensure best pulp management strategies are in place and followed.

The Process Lead is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the paper machine, ensuring that all regulatory and developmental needs of the departments are met, and that all activities are conducted in accordance with the Cascades Mississauga Packaging Operating philosophy.
