The Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Director, Finance, to join our Finance & Treasury Team.

Reporting to VP, Finance & Treasury, the Director, Finance will oversee financial and regulatory reporting, corporate tax compliance, accounting policy administration, internal controls development and enforcement. This position is accountable for delivering accurate financial reports to internal and external stakeholders, successful implementation of Finance projects and department objectives. The incumbent will manage, mentor and evaluate members of the financial reporting and corporate tax teams.

What your day looks like:
Oversee month end and year end close processes, preparation of financial statements, regulatory and management reporting, in accordance with IFRS, regulatory requirements and approved corporate policies. Ensure all SLAs are met
Accountable for timely delivery of accurate financial reports to external and internal stakeholders including but not limited to Board of Directors, regulators, executive and senior management, and department leaders
Ensure all regulatory filings are delivered by the deadlines. Pass Corporate and regulatory audits with minimal audit findings
Challenge the status quo, streamline the month end processes and shorten the month end timeline
Prepare and present analysis of monthly results to SVP, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Administrative Officer and the Vice-President, Finance & Treasury
Acquire a solid understanding of Aviso’s products and services across all business lines. Be well verse of the levers and drivers of corporate performance
Acquire a solid understanding Aviso’s ERP system, trade record keeping system and insurance system; and how data from each system are mapped and captured on Aviso’s financial statements.
Act as technical specialist for Finance on accounting, regulatory reporting and tax issues, including researching and preparing position papers
Work closely with senior management, and relevant internal committees in the formulation and articulation of financial policy needs, procedures and best practices
Ensure all policies, procedures and internal controls are followed. Identify process changes to improve efficiencies, tighten internal controls and enhance information value
Establish relationships with FP&A, Accounting Operations and Finance teams, understand their needs and coordinate reporting requirements accordingly
Manage financial reporting systems and associated accounting and finance applications. Ensure the system and applications’ versions are up-to-date and seamless integration with banking, invoicing and expense processes
Act as a liaison with corporate auditors, tax consultant and regulators - IIROC, MFDA and Securities Commissions
Manage Corporate audits, regulatory audits and internal audits. Stay up to date of accounting standard and regulatory changes and assess the respective financial reporting impacts. Maintain a low risk audit environment
Provide strong leadership, effective supervision, mentorship and direction to the financial reporting and corporate tax teams. Establish and maintain effective functional and cross-functional training and communication. Provide regular constructive feedback to team members
Develop and maintain metrics to track and measure achievements of finance objectives
Be an advocate of continuous improvements

Requirements

Your experience and skills:
Strong business acumen, ability to influence and make sound recommendations as well as build and maintain solid relationships with stakeholders are key success factors in this role
Experience in wealth management and asset management industry is an asset
Strong interest and curiosity in capital markets, investment vehicles and functions of securities broker-dealers
Professional designation (CPA, CA) and 3+ years of audit experience with a global accounting firm
Minimum of 7 years’ experience with managing accounting and finance functions in medium to large enterprises
Hands on experience in accounting for financial instruments under IFRS 9, corporate and commodity tax compliance
Experience in managing a team of finance professionals and engaging in their career development
Perseverance to gather information from various stakeholders and take the project from start to finish in a logical manner
Good and working knowledge of capital markets and financial services industry
Superior computer skills; ACCPAC, Excel, Database query language, and report writers
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
Customer service oriented to respond quickly and effectively to non-routine enquiries
Strong analytical skills and judgment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
Ability to deliver presentation to a large group of audience
