The best landscaping company in the city (world?), with a stellar company culture? Absolutely.

Health benefits? Yep, those too, we even pay well!

Looking for a job where you will be given lots of trust and will have the opportunity to really make a difference? You got it!

Does this sound like you?

You are proud to show people your garage – they’re blown away at how organized it is, no tripping on tools. Your socket drawer is more organized than most people’s cutlery drawers.
You’re constantly tinkering – you grew up taking things apart, and putting them back together. You’re great at making modifications, and figuring things out in a pinch.
You have years of experience working on small engines and maintaining small hydraulic systems, with at least some experience in other areas such as automotive.
You get along great with people. You love to teach others your trade and the tricks you’ve learned over the years.
You don’t rush your work, you take the time to do it right.
You want to work in a high-paced, small business where you’re given a clear role, defined responsibilities, and given a chance to shine.
You want to take over and own this role, while having a supportive management team to help you grow.
You can see yourself managing and organizing a small shop, managing and maintaining a large fleet of outdoor power equipment, trucks, and trailers for a growing landscape and snow removal company, often on your own.
You are available, and adaptable, to the ever-changing demands of a weather-dependent business. Taking calls after hours to help crews, dropping what you’re doing in the shop to drive to do an in-field repair.

Company: Landscapers By Nature Ltd. (LBN) is an established leader in the landscape maintenance and snow removal market in Calgary. We are extremely proud of both our long-term customers and employees. We specialize in offering large condominium complexes professional grounds maintenance services year-round.

What we do isn’t really what matters. Why do we do it? We have a strong focus on building a team with a great culture, we have a lot of fun, we enjoy working hard as a team in a fast-growing company, and we are always looking for ways to improve. We all take great pride in the work that we do and work to reach our goals together. You’ve never worked for a trades business like this before. Check us out - www.LBNature.ca

Should you accept the challenge, this role will involve:
You will be introduced to the role with a list of specific responsibilities, how to deliver on them successfully, and what order you should focus on learning them. Your role will involve three main components: 1) Organizing and managing our shop/yard/fleet, 2) Maintaining and repairing equipment, and 3) Assisting the Operations Manager.

You will be the only full-time shop staff in the company but will be able to use contractors to assist during busy periods if needed. We have 20+ production staff, nearly 100 pieces of outdoor power equipment, 12+ trucks, and it all depends on this role to run efficiently, and dependably – this is a very important role in our business.

You will be the face of our business to all of our staff for maintenance/repairs, and keeping their equipment running. You must keep a pulse on what’s happening in production at all times with the help of the Operations Manager.

We are a young and driven management team who work very hard and value a rewarding lifestyle. Expect to put in a good amount of effort, but also to be supported and accommodated by the rest of the team. Vacations are well earned, and others will happily step in to take the reins when you need a break. You’ll hold regular goal setting and review meetings with the owner to share concerns, ideas, and successes.

Some of your day-to-day tasks will include:
Cleaning and organizing shops (one main shop, 2 satellite) and yard.
Coming up with and working on projects to improve our space and equipment to be more efficient and organized.
Performing maintenance and repairs – following your own knowledge, and our comprehensive preventative maintenance software. Maintenance and repairs on: 2 stroke equipment, skid steers, large hydraulic mowers, etc. Minor automotive repairs. Transporting equipment to other repair shops as needed.
Winter: 7-day availability is required (all work done during the day). You are not a primary equipment operator, but you are to be a backup plow or spreader operator when needed.
Assisting the Operations Manager. Running errands for him, delivering backup equipment to a crew with something down, hopping in a plow truck, and generally assisting him wherever your skillset allows.
Training production staff on equipment maintenance, and holding them accountable for completing it. We have an in-house training program (always evolving), that you will assist the office manager to create lessons for. These are digital lessons, involving photos and videos.

Applicants must have/be:
  • A genuine, trustworthy person that will contribute to our work environment in a positive way. Ask yourself: “Have I had quite a few issues working with others in the past? Would I say it was the other parties’ fault each time?” If yes, please do not apply.
  • A problem solver. We like people who really own their role. We will give you the tools and systems, train you to be successful, and support you. It is expected that you will take problems and solve them, not bounce problems back to other managers without providing options and suggestions.
Exceptional time and priority management skills. Able to handle workplace distractions and multiple tasks without getting frustrated.
Fluency in English.
Preference to education in small engine mechanics, or other mechanical trades, but not needed.
In your application, please let us know your favorite summer activity – aside from getting to know you better, this will tell us if you have read the ad carefully!
An energetic personality, able to connect with people effectively.
A class 5 license, provided with clean abstract. Confidence in pulling trailers with a pickup truck.

  • These are often the most challenging parts of the job, please think this through and ask clarifying questions in the interview.
Compensation and Benefits:
Health benefits after 3 months
Competitive salary $50-$55K/year
2 weeks paid vacation
Cell phone compensation
Company laptop
Development opportunities – great internal training, and outside training courses and certifications offered and paid by LBN.
A great, supportive team. You’ll be given the tools you need to succeed in this position and will be supported by other experienced management.

Position Type & Schedule: Full time year-round, 6:30 am start at the shop (near Glenmore/52nd St SE). M-F weekly, weekend work as needed. Winter on call for machine operator backup, and available for calls anytime crews are in operation.
