Here’s the impact you’ll make and what we’ll accomplish together

You are an experienced, hands-on lead developer, who has led teams in shipping large-scale applications. You are a mentor and guiding voice for developers, who can balance day-to-day workload, with an eye for future improvements of your team and their work.

As a Tech Architect, you are responsible for the architecture of Digital Commerce systems that need to scale to support millions of digitally engaged TELUS customers.

You will use your excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal and external delivery teams to ensure that systems are accurately designed and developed, while working side by side with leadership and practitioners to spread leaner digital approaches to architecture within the wider TELUS organization.

Here’s how

Accountable to define, review, and advocate for the best testing practices, standards, and technologies within the team in alignment for overall direction
Establish, document, and enforce architectural standards for commerce applications
Working with product management to inject technical priorities into the backlog - enthusiastically and reactively
Collaborate with Architects from other tribes to enable cross-tribe consistency
Collaborate with Product Strategist to provide assessments on new projects and feature asks from external stakeholders
Work with other in team architects to define the roadmap and technical vision for our software platforms and get buy in from key stakeholders
Contribute to planning initiatives involving delivery scope, resourcing, and budget
Collaborate with teams in the end to end commerce journey (shopping to fulfillment to finance) to identify operational inefficiencies and implement solutions
Build and manage relationships and expectations with external partners and teams
Understand the tradeoffs between systems (new and legacy) to develop an iterative approach to delivery while minimizing the technical debt
Identify skill gaps / quality gaps in technical team members (including vendor partners)
Identify gaps in tooling & platform quality and call out issues effectively
Collaborate with Managers on technical skills of team members
Work with the Technical Leads to facilitate the technical on-boarding and training of new hires including technical stack and programming
Support effective code reviews
Getting up to speed on current technology and introducing new technologies to bring back and share with the team
Lead the design of scalable software platforms with performance and security in mind
Provide guidance to project teams in all phases of SDLC
Champion the development of new capabilities and systems to enable platform modernization and turndown of legacy systems
Provide application architectural solutions to meet business requirements

Qualifications

You're the missing piece of the puzzle

A demonstrable ability to understand, analyze, and document business problems while architecting viable and scalable solutions
Strong ability to balance complex technological shifts with rapidly changing business asks and delivery timeline
Strong technical background in Object Oriented languages, and client and server side JavaScript architectures, in particular React and NodeJS
Demonstrable experience in “Agility” and Lean, including Extreme Programming, Kanban and Scrum
Experience using and driving Continuous Integration/Delivery practices, tools and technologies
Passionate about, and experienced with modern, HTTP oriented approaches to architecture like Microservices
Strong partner management and interaction at various levels
Great-to-haves

Experience with securing applications to common security threats (OWASP Standards)
Familiar with accessibility (WCAG 2) best methodologies
Experience with Web/HTTP security controls (CORS, CSP, TLS, etc ...)
Experience crafting, building, and maintaining High Availability systems
Experience in crafting and socializing technology roadmaps
